Hey Dudes,

This isn't a repair video, a maintenance video or a mod video. But, it features 3rd Gen 4runners in their natural habitat traveling off-road through a very scenic and dramatic landscape. I hope you enjoy the ride.

I remember Death Valley. Back in the day we would go out there and lick various types of toads until the rocks started to move on their own.

Now that I think about it that might have been West Virginia but that part isn’t important
 
Thanks for rubbing it in! I was out there the week everything with covid went crazy in 2020. My wife and I came back to cell reception to a world that was going crazy!

But we really want to get back out there to explore the cabins, trails, and springs around the park.
 
Spent 3 days wheeling in Death Valley in October. It was a blast. Did Mengel pass too, but the video just doesn't convey the steepness of it. Did Lippencott Road and Titus Canyon. It is really a beautiful place. Spent the night at Homestake Dry Camp and Stella's Cabin.

Tim: Excellent video with better than normal coverage of the 4-wheeling aspect.

Looks like you shot this with a Pocket Osmo. If I may ask, what was/is your choice of external microphone?
 
Great video, as they always are Tim.

Shout-out to anyone who was out there this summer when it was 132 deg F. I was an hour away... it was only 123 deg F there.

Glad you like the video. Part 2 is now live.

Yes, I shot the footage outside my rig with a DJI Osmo Pocket 2. I didn't use an external mic. I just used the built in internal mic when I was shooting outside my rig. The driving footage was shot with a GoPro Hero 7 suction cupped to the inside of my windshield.
 
Looks like a good time was had by all. Never thought I would hear Tim yelp like a coyote.

My friend works for the USGS in California and goes to Death Valley for work now and then. He has many stories but the one he always recalls is when he was taking soil samples when suddenly he saw a tall truck racing across the dirt. Turned out to be a Unimog. Said that thing climbed like a mountain goat.

Unfortunately the video didn't pick up the echo from me howling at the moon.

We actually ran across a broken down Unimog on Racetrack Valley Road. Their water pump imploded and they also had an issue with a broken air line for their air brakes. So, they were a bit screwed. It was a husband and wife team and the husband was going to have to get on a small motorcycle to ride into Furnace Creek and see if he can get the necessary parts ordered and sent to the gas station. I think that couple is going to be there for a while.
 
Part 2 didn't disappoint! Makes the work day more interesting here in a basement cubicle! I learned that wheel well lighting is a thing. My mom and dad used to take me camping in Death Valley in a 1960 Citroën DS and then later in a Plymouth Valiant wagon. Great times. I am now setting my sights on a DV trip Fall 2021.

Edit -odd typing that as DV has always meant Downieville to me, being an MTBer

Yeah, the dudes on this trip love their LED lighting. Glad you're enjoying the videos. Part 3 will be live tomorrow morning.

Dont make random fire rings in the park. Fires are only allowed in designated nps sites. Fires are currently not allowed randomly on the backcountry roads. Thats why I normally dont camp in those spots becuase I like my fires too. We regularly have to tear down those random fire rings people make, and its a big mess from all the unburned material.

I work for the park, so if anyone has questions about the rules I can answer them. Illegal fire ticket is $530


That massive Cairn is a historical mine marker. When the old timers got their mining permit they would make those rock piles to mark out the property of their claim. Pretty cool they are still standing huh!
