Update 12/15: Mondy Dec 21st confirmed pending snow. 11am @ the Green Valley Lake parking lot.

Update: Looks like Monday Dec 21st is working for most people so let's set that in stone.

So I have the entire week of Christmas off and I figure Dec 21-23 I'm going to run something. I'm up for ideas if anyone wants to go. If nobody has anything specific or wants to lead, I'm probably just going to pick a trail out of my guide book and go exploring. Preferably within 2 hours of Anaheim, likely south or east since I don't want to drive through LA in the middle of the week. Maybe up to the mountains if there's any snow on the ground.

Also probably going to try to plan a day trip on Sat the 19th. At this point I'm thinking Cleghorn since I haven't been through there yet. Going to try to get out to Holy Jim this coming Sunday just to try out the Icons/MT spring setup.

I'm off that Monday the 21st and down for a run pending my schedule does not change. I am open to heading up big bear area and surrounding.

Keeping an eye on the roads in the Big Bear area. Right now a lot of the popular roads (Skyline, Clark's grade, etc) are closed for the winter.

San Bernardino National Forest - Alerts & Notices

Winter Road Closures-Mountaintop Ranger District

Date(s): Nov 30, 2015

1N54 Clarks Grade, 2N06 Radford Truck Trail, 2N08 Knickerbocker, 2N10 Skyline (east and west sides) 2N27 Sand Canyon, 2N93 Wildhorse

The more people that want in, the better of an idea that I'll have of what we can do and when.

I should be able to do the 19th and/or the 21st (have family coming into town on the 22nd).

I am pretty familiar with big bear trails, depending on the group that wants to go I can make suggestions on what type of terrain you want to tackle. Either a leisurely stroll or some technical trails. I'm in for either, just want to get out there

Awesome. Was going to hassle @gvl too if we end up going that direction again.

Looks like I have some TW Tacoma people that are interested in this. I'll get a list started in the first post in another week.

I want to do a 3 day camping trip for Mohave Rd.

Let me know!

Same. I don't think it'll work for a one day trip, but I definitely want to run the whole thing and spend some time exploring. There's a potential Death Valley trip in the works on TW for either Martin Luther King day weekend or President's day weekend. Whichever weekend that doesn't fall on, I'd be willing to do a Mojave Road trip.

Hey guys, I'll be chillin at the cabin that whole timeframe and always up for a cruise. All of our trails are still open and still some snow on the shaded trails. Theres a loop of the GV trails that would only take a couple hours at most which is mostly mild moderate but has a few black diamond sections if desired and some pretty nice views along the way. I'm happy to host burgers and beer after out on the porch if it's a nice winter day.

Just an option to throw into the hat.

That actually sounds pretty awesome. What are the chances of the GV trails getting closed due to snow in the next two weeks, especially considering the potential snow this coming weekend? Right now I think we're pretty well set for Monday the 21st as a set date.

The FS doesn't close the gates until we get enough snow for someone to get seriously stuck out in th forest (about a foot or so). Unfortunately I don't see that happening anytime soon - I think this next one is just a good dusting from what I've seen.

Bump. I'm thinking 10am @ the Green Valley Lake parking on Monday the 21st if that's cool with @GVL and everyone else that's expressed interest. Personally I'd love to run around up there again, especially if there's still snow on the ground.

21st sounds good to me and 10am sounds even better:sleep:
