Deckplate vs. Open lid

I was just pondering the deckplate mod and wondering why cut into the air box when one can simply pull the lid off? and put back on if you want to... same benefit of the deckplate (more air and can be put back to stock performance if wanted)

I will look closer at this, however, the incoming air I would bet sucks it into place if it happens to "relax" it's positioning with the lid off?
 
or possibly a clamp or shim inside the box can keep the filter from moving? just thinking of simpler way of accomplishing this without having to cut stock parts...
 
The hole in front of the box allows air to flow directly into it, rather than over the top or around the elbow. This keeps the speed of the air up. The faster air is moving the cooler it is. The cooler the air is, the better performance you will get. This is also one of the benefits of the ISR because the air is pushed into the motor faster and cooler.
 
I don't think we need an alternative to the current working mod. Deck plate is cheap and easy , :toilet3:
 
Wasn't looking for an alternative for everyone to do... just for myself ;-) I personally don't see the air being "cooler" just because it comes from the front of the air port... I'd venture quantity not angle being the main concern at the point I'm at... if angle is a concern, why not shoot the intake straight off the intake manifold? I don't doubt the philosophy of it, just thinking more air is better than what was prior set up... I honestly just don't want to pull the box, cut a hole, order a part... my mod is simply for myself... not trying to convince others mine is better... just don't feel like ordering a part when I can simply pull off the lid :-) I see the braces in the lid that help keep the filter locked in... I just used a c-clamp against the filter and it's not going anywhere ;-)

Looking at the ISR mod as well... I have a piece of blower tubing off a leaf vac that has similar dimensions and may work... also working on possibly getting a nipple installed to it to skip having to put a tee on another vacuum hose. That too is just my idea for a mod without going to a muffler shop and having someone press some metal tubing to put in place of the ISR... :-) Happy Mod'ing

Don't need to order anything. I just went into a boat store and they had them in stock on a shelf for like $10.
