difficulty finding the 4Runner I want

They want me to put down a $500 deposit and said it will take 6-8 weeks to get what I want. ?

My dealer did this too. I made them put the 4 weeks dely on the sales agreement along with the promise of a loaner after 4 weeks. I private-sold my PF, and ended up driving a Corolla for 2 weeks.

...My local dealer is telling me to wait and see what's on the next boat, and said that they can redirect the vehicle that I want (provided it's on the boat).

The dealer has access to a database of what's en route, and can in fact reroute something. I *think* that database even includes vehicles in the build process as well.

The longest delay for me was the rail transport from the POE to Chicago, and the sorting-down process off the train onto a car carrier. The database is in la-la land too, until it gets on the truck. There was a period of >2 weeks when all Toyota knew was "it's on the railroad".
Whatever your dealer tells you, it'll be longer, so pick their shortest estimate ('6' if they say 6-8 weeks) and get it on the sls agrt as stated above.

My dealer was very agreeable to this, as all I wanted was something to drive while waiting.

Can't you private-sell your present ride? ..... it sure makes the sale easier.

We live in Texas, too. Your problem is Gulf States Toyota. They control about 5 states. We wanted a shoreline blue limited with all the options, 4WD. We got online and ordered just what we wanted from Denver, which is part of the Mountain States Toyota group. Get heated seats while you're at it!! It was $600 to ship it, and the total price, even after shipping, was less than the best price our local dealer gave for similar vehicle in a color I did not want.

We're part of Gulf States here in Oklahoma City. We have plenty of 4x4's. Maybe they just don't have them in south Texas. I did have to have my dealer get my TE from a dealer in Tulsa but that was for Shoreline Blue. My dealer had a Shoreline Blue Limited 4x4 and a Silver TE but I wanted a blue TE.

Glenn - You're on the right track. I'm in Houston and basically had the same problem. I let the fleet manager know what I wanted (SR5 - 4WD in silver or magnetic gray) and he had to keep an eye on what vehicles were coming into the Gulf States Distribution center. Once he found one on the way, with my basic requirements, he tagged it for his dealership and it took another 2 weeks or so before it arrived on his lot. Total process was about 4 weeks.

I was up at his dealership last weekend, and there was only 1 SR5 on the lot, black and 2WD. I think there were two TE and one Limited. All 2010's.

When we bought our TE in March, Don McGill's Dairy Ashford lot had more 4WD T4R's than 2WD. Fred Haas was the reverse.
