I forgot to post up some pictures from my last snow wheeling trip.
I went up Georgia Pass early May before the gates were closed, it was a fun trip! I’m still working on the GoPro footage so that will come later.
Here is the second gate that is about half way up to the summit; I had to dig around a little to find it.

Glad to hear you had a great time at moab, a trip out there is on my bucket list but I don't know if or when I will be able to make it happen so in the mean time I just enjoy the pics of the rest of you getting to go.
Totally unimportant I was in VA the other day and seen a runner the same color as yours it was all stock but it made me think of yours.
Getting caught up on this thread now I need to start on your trailer build, your threads are addicting lol. Hope your well.

I was out by you a few weeks ago, stayed in Silverthorne, wish I would have had time to meet up and check out your awesome runner. Maybe next year. Thanks for taking us on all your wheeling trips with the pics and videos, really enjoy them!

It was a fun trip, but it takes a lot to have a "bad" Moab trip. I know it's not easy to make a trip out there, but you should really make it happen one day, it's an amazing place, not just for wheeling but also for the landscape and experiencing the desert.
Don't worry, the trailer build is quite a bit shorter

Nice. I always like your snow videos. I noticed the new cam angle. Reverse passenger. My favorite has always been the low forward facing one so you can see the front tire. Too bad the camera always get covered.

How are you liking the km2's now that you've ran them a while? I know you mentioned you weren't impressed with the new mtr's on the street, how do they compare on the trail? i'm running old style mtr's now and love them but they're about wore out so i've got the wheels turning....
also i'm wondering how your 17's work with 35's, do you still have plenty of sidewall for crawling? seems to me that having less sidewall would make balancing easier, mine need re-balanced after every couple of trips

Thanks, good eye! Yeah, I like that angle too but I usually can't keep the lens clean for more than a couple seconds. That's why I reversed it around, to catch all the snow flying around.

I would really like to make a fall trip too, if I can squeeze it in.
The MTR's were great off road, but sucked on the street. It's a really common issue in that size, all the Jeep guy's have issue's too. For the most part I really like the KM2's, here are the pro's and con's that I've noticed so far:
Pro:
- Ride smooth on the street
- Keep balanced, for the most part - Minimal weight
- Hooks up great on the rocks (Moab and Colorado style wheeling)
- Okay in the deep snow at low PSI
Con:
- Getting loud
- Sucks on ice / hard pack snow
- Seem to be wearing REALLY fast
Will my next set of tires be the same? I don't know, I'm still undecided. I really like the Toyo Open Country MT, but they are $$$ and heavy!
I have no issue's with the 17's, the tires and sidewalls flex just fine. The reason I picked that size was if/when I go SAS I want to be able to run a 37", and have a good selection of streetable tires. Your pretty much stuck with Swampers if you have 15-16's.

I finally got around to dismounting the stock wheels and tires that were on the 4Runner when I bought it. If anyones interested in some 5 stars and cheap highway tires.

I also went out and did some wheeling! A lot of the gates are still closed around here, but the gate to North Fork was open so I made my way up the trail to see how far I could make it.
No one had been past this snow drift, a couple minutes later I was through it and on my way to the cabin at the top.

That was the end of the road, the trail that heads over to Deer Creek and St. John's was still snowed in at the really steep section. Trust me, there's no breaking trail up that section, I'll just have to wait for the sun to melt it. Also, the gates are still closed at the beginning of those trails so I wouldn't have made it far.

I have a few updates, I’ll start with the good and work my way to the not so good.
First up, I bought a fridge for the trailer that will also serve double duty in the back of the 4Runner (at times) when the trailer is not in use. I’ve wanted a fridge for the trailer for a while, but I had a hard time justifying the cost, and the slide out on the trailer is smaller than most of the fridges out there. Then I saw the Ironman 4x4 fridges, and that the 30L model would fit the slide out perfect!

It was still more than I wanted to spend at $585.00 on Sierra Expeditions.

Then, I was cruising around Expedition Portal and ran into this thread:

The same exact fridge for $399, from what I can tell it’s identical and uses all the same components. It says that it’s $479, but once you put it in your cart the price drops to $399. I was sold, you can spend a couple hundred dollars on a nice ice cooler. After all the ice I’ve bought, and all the food that has been ruined due to water contamination or getting warm, it should pay for itself down the road!
TruckFridge Model: TF31 - Portable Model
It’s a little small but the main use will be for food while I’m camping, and I don’t have to worry about ice and water taking up room inside the fridge. I’ll have another cooler with ice in the truck or trailer for beverages, it’s not critical for that stuff to be kept cold and I can always cycle out a couple drinks in the fridge once the ice melts.
Here’s a couple pictures after I got it out of the box, after letting it set for a couple hours (so the refrigerant could settle from shipping) I fired it up and it took half an hour to go from 65 to 28 degrees. That works for me! Does anyone want some popsicles and ice cream on the trail?
It’s going to take a little work to fit it in the back of the 4Runner, but I’ll figure it out.
