I'm glad you stopped in and said hi, and thanks for the kind words! I've seen your 4Runner around the site and it looks great, you have some good action shots! Sounds good I'll let you know if I'm in the area, maybe a Blanca trip later this season?

Haven't stopped by in a while. The truck is still looking awesome. Definitely one of my top 10 favorite 3rd gen builds on the site.

I really wanted to make a trip out to Moab this spring, but things have been pretty hectic with switching jobs (different schedule, limited shop use, etc). But, I’ve decided to make it happen if at all possible. That means I have nice list of things to do before I can head out there, and a set time frame of when I can make it happen. It also looks like my schedule, and [MENTION=63060]rickashay[/MENTION] schedule will overlap by a day. So I hope we will get one trail run in together.
On to the task at hand…
I used the 4Runner for a couple months to commute back and forth to work, and that really took a toll on it. It was only around 30 miles a day, but it was the road conditions that became an issue. It’s been a rough winter, and CDOT has been using gravel and mag-cloride like crazy up here, it’s nasty shit!
I started by repainting the front bumper, rear bumper, tire carrier and rock sliders; the gravel chipped the paint, and the mag-choride started pitting the metal below. I wanted to stop the process before it became so bad that major repair was necessary.
You can see how bad it was getting from this picture:
I used my Dad’s garage to sand everything down and repaint. It’s the same place the trailer is hanging out until it warms up. The undercarriage needs some touch up paint, and the wheels need polishing really bad (due to the same reasons), but that will have to wait until later this summer when I have more time.
I also swapped out the depleted CO2 tank for a fresh one, added a bottle of Redline Water Wetter to condition the cooling system (and maybe knock a couple degree’s off the running temp on the hot days), and gave the inside a good cleaning. I have a pretty good list going of things that I want, and need, to address before I can make it out to Moab. I’ll keep you guys updated on the progress!

Thanks man! Yeah, I saw that a couple days ago, pretty sweet. It will be cool to see how it turns out when it's all done.
If you make it out to Colorado this summer just let me know, it would be fun to run a trail or two.

Weird seeing independent suspension on a trailer haha.
Ya, I'll see if I can get over there at some point. Definitely heading there eventually. Might not be until winter though. Could be perfect for snow wheeling

That's the way Adventure Trailers builds their suspension, except they use air bags. It should work pretty good with the ORI's, might take some tuning though to get it right.

I'm driving out Sunday May 4th, and leaving Thursday morning May 8th. It's kind of a short trip, but it's the best I could do with my current schedule.

Well, I can add some more stuff to the “To-Do” Moab list:
I noticed some oil residue around the valve covers (big surprise). I checked the bolts and they were pretty much finger tight, so I snugged them down just a little. Hopefully that will do the trick until it’s time to do some maintenance on the engine.
I knew the rear brake pads were getting low, so I bought some replacements. In the process of changing them out I found that both rear calipers had seized and rusted pistons (ugh). I stopped the project, threw the old pads back in, and now I have to replace both rear calipers and the pads.
While giving the 4Runner a good once over I noticed the front brake lines are dry rotted and cracked, bad. So I ordered some braided stainless steel replacements from Wheeler’s Off-Road. I’m just glad I caught it before the trip; loosing the brakes with the trailer behind the truck would be bad, on a trail like Hell’s Revenge or Cliffhanger it could be even worse!
I noticed the fuel line for the URD 7th injector kit is cracked pretty bad. I wasn’t thrilled with this hose set up when it came with the kit, and it confirmed my fears (I think the newer kits come with a braided stainless line). For the time being I think I will heat shrink the ends, and then hose clamp them. After Moab I’ll talk to URD and see about replacement options.

Thanks Casey! I would much rather replace/upgrade the thing than try and rig something up. I'll call URD on Monday and see if I can get the new line in time for my trip.

With respect, I suggest you go read on the differences between an IFS (Independent Front Suspension) and a Solid Front Axle.
The only 3rd gens with birfields are those that have SAS'd, or Solid Axle Swap'd.
