Disable VSC, TRAC, and ABS without damaging factory wiring

I have to be stopped to make it work, but when i hit the button it turns off the traction control. I can start off spinning the tires but if you try to feather the throttle, the traction control kicks back in. As long as the rpm's are going up it will stay off. I know that for a fact since i boiled a set of tires the night before i replaced them. I haven't ever pushed the button in and held it to see if it would stay on. I will have to try that.

I did this mod just yesterday.

I believe on some Runners it is different. I have a 2004 Sport V6 and it wasn`t the white wire out of the two pronged connector that I had to tap into, it was the red wire that is in the three pronged connector just above the two pronged one.

Other than that, everything works great. Before I would just unplug the connecter and when I was done having fun plug it back in. But nothing beat the flick of a switch from the comfort of your drivers seat !

Merry Christmas All

This MOD is a must do. Where can we buy factory sized on off switches ? Or is modding the fj the only option for a clean factory sized toggle look.

Ok thanks i will check around. I was just wondering tho, with my 03 limited v8 i have just the diff lock button which turns off the VSC and locks in diff and i played around with it today in the snow and icy roads. I got up to 60km with no troubles or binding. I was on ice and snow which is good.I wouldnt do that on ashphalt. But why do this mod if the diff lock shuts off the stupid pedal acceleration cancel on tire slippage and allows me to still spin tires and have full control. Is that not enough? what more does this mod give me? Or maybe its just be researching the shit out of this mod and over reading something:crazy:

Same with mine 03 sr5. I did this mod 4 months ago and put in a switch. to turn abs/trac/vsc off. For some reason 2 days ago my vsc and trac is always off now. When i switch the switch it will turn of my ABS its weird my switch is fine sense when i turn it it turns off the ABS. But my Trac and VSC is always off now. Not sure what happened or if i should worry to much. Any Suggestions?

I have read a 100+ pages on this mod and I still have a ton of questions:

Did you do the mod by splicing into the ABS switches under the hood or did you tap into the wires running off the 4WD ECU under the glove compartment? I would like to keep my mod inside the truck, so I can just run the wire(s) behind the dash and hook them right into my new factory switch - and I would prefer not to have the ABS light illuminated at the same time.

That being said, what connectors (on the factory switch) did you use for the two wires that disable everything? I believe there should be one tapped wire (from the red wire with a blue tracer) coming from the ECU and another wire needs grounded at a convenient location under the hood. I just don't know which two connectors on the switch I should use? It's the 6 pin connector switch, like in the 08+ Runners and the FJ's, so it appears I have to chose the correct two connection points on the switch to make it work.

And does your switch light up when it's engaged? That was the only reason I shelled out the $70 for a factory switch. And the dealer told me it was a direct plug-n-play for the V6 and the V8 models, which I later found out to be a BS call on their part - once I tore apart the dash only to find a black 115V connector for another mod.

It also appears I may need to mod the switch (from momentary to constant) in order to keep everything "off" the entire time I'm driving. I originally thought that simply depressing the switch for a few seconds provided a break in the current, and everything would stay off until I turned off the truck to reset the factory settings on the ECU?! Did you have a chance to test your theory... holding it in for a longer duration to see if everything stayed off (as opposed to everything coming right back on once you let go of the switch?)

Sorry to bombard you with so many questions, but I want to be 100% certain of every available outcome before I start tapping into wires on the ECU.

Here's the switch I purchase for the mod... I'm guessing it's the same as yours', only a different picture on the actual rocker housing:

I'm just going to find the #12 pin under the dash by the steering column and cut it and splice in a switch. I think that is all I have to do. From some quick reading there is no ground to connect. Literally cut a wire and connect a switch in it's place. Does it matter which way the switch is spliced in? Man I hate it when I overthink things.

You are definitely not alone! I've read enough on the subject to write a small book and I still can't seem to pull the trigger.

Your goal is slightly different than mine, though. I want to use the factory switch and have it light up, too. I'm pretty sure that's now a pipe dream and I should just mod the #12 pin wire, like you said, and be done with it.

I'll have to think it over...

ok now to find a suitable switch. Would a rocker style switch work? I've been reading about momentary switch's on this thread but don't know the differences. Can somebody school me please?

Here it what I used from a local electronics store for like 6 bucks.

Momentary won't work. You need a constant on and off switch. Rocker is the way to go

Didn't make it to the store to look at switches today but I did get my Bluetooth obd II adapter and I downloaded the torque pro app on my Galaxy S4. It is pretty sweet. I haven't had much time to play with the real time data. I was however able to reset the cel from the phone which was nice.
