isn't this kind of like the Google for 4 runners. I think we all have asked dumb questions in the past. Were all here for our love of the 4 runner and to be able to ask questions no matter how dumb. I will admit there are some post's that people don't do any research on what so ever but even then it helps you think about some of the dumb questions we have all asked or thought about asking in the past

Great first post!
I've been on car forums for over 10 years now and this one does have more then it's share of opinionated ,unsubstantiated and ignorant post lately here in the 5th Gen section. If you read the other sections in T4R ,not nearly so.
The 2 main types of shat stirrers/smart ashes seem to be members with older 4Runners come in this section and cut this Gen down out of I guess jealousy, even though not as much lately, and the other is people that owned cars or unibody SUV's all their life,bought the 4runner on looks alone and are surprised that the 4Runner steers ,brakes,handles and just plain rides like a truck. Well, it is a 5000 lb body on full frame truck and is meant to take a beating and last a long long time like no other so it has to be a little rough around the edges at this price range. I feel they made a mistake in their purchase and come here to vent their frustrations by whining about every little thing .They should have researched, test drove more or saved up some more and bought the Lexus if they wanted gravy on their tators and whine with their cheese.:wow:
All in all it's still a great forum with alot of knowledgeable members and I still keep coming back even though I'm on another forum alot more lately because I learn more there and the people are friendlier. I come here to learn and to share what I've learned on my 4Runner. I tend to block out all the other BS and just skip over it. Every once in awhile, somebody will get under my skin after more then one off topic ignorant post in the same thread and I too will lash back and be a part the problem,usually out of self defense for our beloved 5ths.
Like any other vehicle out there it has it's faults/misgivings but then no vehicles are perfect. Working on vehicles as a mechanic has been my passion for 30+ years and at the end of the day I wouldn't own any other truck out there. I enjoy the hell out of driving my 4Runner every single day and that's all that really counts in my book.I'm slowly but surely taking it apart piece by piece and putting it back together again to see what makes it tick. As I have most of my interior taken apart and out at present and sitting in my spare room to install sound deadener.lol Very well engineered and the build quality has been second to none.

Haha some of you guys are taking this all wrong. I...personally...am the thickest skinned, smart*ss b*s**** you will ever meet. On that note...I felt the need to say what many newbies to the forum WANTED to say after reading some of the posts/answers to their questions. Everyone on this forum is/or at one time was a newbie to something in life. For instance...the first time you seen a pair of jugs. Did you know what to do with them? Say there was a forum for that...dont pretend you wouldnt have been all over it...Da...uh...umm...everytime i see boobs i get a squirt out the back and not the front...anyone have the same problem before i go ask my dad???

As far as using the search feature goes, sometimes unless you phrase something exactly right you dont get the results you want.
Also, different people have different backgrounds. While it may be a no brainer for some to look in the manual for something, others may have a difficult time with the manual..just sayin...

Agree, I don't think most here are overly sensitive at all. And I agree that the world is entirely too PC nowadays. But, people are just asking for basic respect and common courtesy.
You can choose to be as cocky, grandiose and sarcastic as you want, but it can all still be done with tact. Some just choose not to use it...it is just the internet after all, so why not act without social repercussions...
I suspect the lack of insight here, follows elsewhere.

I'm pretty new myself and I know where the OP is coming from.
But I also have enough respect on a forum to spend at least some time searching for an answer or issue before I post a new thread. Odds are that my questions have already been asked at least once before, if not many. I spent my first 2 weeks simply hitting the search button or going through thread after thread after thread reading old posts. I will point out the search feature isn't perfect and doesn’t always get you what your looking for (like Google as well).
New members have to show respect and do some diligence on their own and search for answers first, then post if the answer is not found or not concise enough. That will help the negative comments from some of the senior members.
... and there is always going to be a handful that are typically smart-azz period.
I also quickly learned in my first two weeks that I will NEVER post any PRICES I may pay for ANYTHING to do with my 4Runner. Many on here seem to love to point out to poster that they overpaid for something… and NO-ONE wants to hear that, even if true. Some posters on here have to start realizing that prices vary in different states and internationally so just because you paid less for something where you are, doesn’t mean it’s that price everywhere else in the world. AND not everyone lieks to or can DIY… sometimes it is simple worth it to 4Runner owners to get it done at a shop…. And pay the extra money.

I think the important thing to remember here folks is that we all have something in common. We are a club of people who love our 4Runners and love learning more about them - thats why we all come here.
A noob might be coming here to learn how their washer fluid works, a semi-noob like me learns about diff breathers this week, while you seasoned guys are always pushing the envelope of what our rigs are capable of. But the point I'm making is that all of us come here to learn, no one can claim they know everything about the 5th Gen, even if they try to say so.

To repliers: If you see the same question being posted over and over...ignore it...reward their laziness by not replying. No one here should feel the need to reply to something by simply saying "SEARCH" just hit your back button and move on. Let them figure it out themselves...because after all, next week a whole new batch of newbies will start threads with the same questions it's a lot easier to ignore it all because schooling 1 newbie doesn't stop the 20 after them from doing the same thing.

If I'm working on my truck one day and run inside to do a quick search on this forum for an answer, and this thread comes up, I'm going to be pissed. Threads like this, and people not searching and creating duplicate threads, are the reason people give smart-ass answers. I hope a mod moves this to off-topic.

that is safe to assume, and I agree. However, these forums should be treated as databases, not as chat rooms. There are sections of this forum that are appropriate for this type of discussion, however this is not the place.

I think most just want to put their question/comment/concern on the most high vis section of the forum. It is safe to say that the non-generation specific areas are often overlooked.

I disagree. If you want a database start a wiki. If you want a successful forum that attracts new users and new sponsors you need to build a community which involves small talk.
You can't just rely on heavy moders to post up reviews on lifts and custom grills. You still need the little guy who posts his review on floor mats or cargo liners.
