Ed, you don't wanna do that....

I spent 2 months trying to reengineer the backlighting for this Ford Taurus gauge bezel

My customer wanted all blue in his interior, but after months of trying, I put the stock LED background lights in for the screen, talked him into a reverse polarization to cut down on how much of the stock green color is left, and swapped the buttons to blue.

It just wasn't feasible to make it light up evenly without hot and dead spots.

I had the same issues when I did my HVAC LED swap on my ack, they had channels that wouldn't distribute the wide area led light properly, resulting in crazy hot spots, so I ended up soldering wired LED's to the bulb bases and running them down the channels, I'm sure there'd be a better way these days, but this was like 7 years ago imp:

Alex - is there a post within this thread that accurately describes exactly which bulbs should be purchased? I've searched pretty thoroughly and each time someone tries to do something like that, someone else chimes in "actually you need a 4, not a 3 there," and it never gets settled.

I'm curious for the hvac (including orange lights that indicate which setting you're on for the selector wheel) and any other led's people usually do - instrument cluster, steering wheel, 4wd selector, back window down, 4 switches to left of steering wheel, etc.

If it doesn't exist, would you be willing to help? I know it might not be good for business... but I sure would appreciate it!

has anyone swapped the "airbag" LED? man that thing is small (1mmx3mm) but i couldnt think of an easy way to swap it in the short amount of time i had. just looking to see if anyone has any tricks.

finished up my HVAC this weekend. theliman i will get up a list of everything used in the coming days.

i will be making a separate post of my stuff as well as pricing as i will begin offering my swap services to the 4runner crowd. i have completed mine and learned about them and feel comfortable now to do this work for others. preview my work with the tacoma crowd over the years below in my sig. i recently did a steering wheel swap for a guy here and i did cookieroe's NAV years ago, so i am starting to build my rep around this specific forum.

You can do that carefully. However, desoldering the screen would be much safer
