DIY: Interior LED swap (cluster, HVAC, switches, window, *steering wheel)

4wd selector is neo 4. The HVAC display is a 7v (I think?) [MENTION=5149]riceandpho[/MENTION] will know for sure and the resistor in the neo 4's is too much for it and the lights won't work without a 12v mod there. I just used different 5mm LEDs and resistors and ground th led housing down and modified it all to fit the OEM bulb holders

The airbag backlight is a 0603 led. 0603's are used for the backlighting on the factory radio's too.

Been working on a radio the last few days. Swapped the leds and did reverse polarization on it. Talk about a PITA! But it turned out great! I'll post pics when my customer gets everything put back together

my version of the 12v mod to get the neo4hp leds to work in the lcd is this, unwind the contacts/wire off the led, firgure out wats pos and neg, solder a wire o the pos lead and negative lead, tap the pos lead to a 12v switch source and ground out the neg, this will get you full brightness, if you want it to dim, i think you use the ground in the harness somewhere, [MENTION=63211]emelianenkov[/MENTION] will know what wire to use.

yep!

BUT, and Alex will back me up, MORE LIGHT is needed for the reverse polarization mod (with 12V mod) to be 100% worth it. During the day, "meh", but at night, very nice!

Dude I don't even.... I was so frustrated by the end I didn't pay attention. I think I got 60 total and don't have much left

If you change everything, it will take 37 led's and they are a royal pain in the butt to replace. I have the same head unit and replaced the led's in mine. The 0603 led's are less than 1/4 of the size of the PLCC led's used in the gauge cluster.

Cool thanks guys. I ain't scared, I replaced those in cookieroes nav and have swapped them in a few other stereos. Its all about having the proper tools for the job!

No doubt! With the NAV, the tiny LEDs are soldered onto a "foil" material, not a circuit board. Ripping it would be disastrous. A few have botched the job on the cluster LED swap, but was easily corrected by "sopping" up soldering material. Wish I had you gentleman's skills ( [MENTION=30225]yosh2000[/MENTION], [MENTION=63211]emelianenkov[/MENTION] ).

I see you bought your LED's in bulk. I may have missed the LED bulb numbers/type, but did catch the resistor type/info.

What is the number for your LED bulbs?
