Dobinsons 5th Gen T4R Suspension options - from Exit Offroad

Help please

Hey everyone. I have done much MUCH much reading and emailing regarding my rear coil issue and still need more thoughts...Currently running 5100s on all corners with front at 0 perch. I installed the 59-300 front and 59-599 rear. It’s exactly what I wanted and need for my offroad and travel purposes. HOWEVER...

Almost immediately after the install my right rear coil seems to be “popping” when flexing too much or even when hitting mild to moderate dips. Everything has been tightened and I’m fairly confident it’s the coil slipping off the seat. The coil seat itself has some scuffing that is leading me to think this way. I’ve concluded that my shocks are simply extending longer than my coil will allow.

I’m fairly noobish to a lot of this but nobody with this exact setup has ever had this complaint so I’m left scratching my head. Again, I’m almost positive this is related to the right real coil only but it just doesn’t make sense. PLEASE help if you have any input. I just want a to fix this issue as it has my butt puckered every time I’m offroad Bc I’m afraid I’m about to blow a coil out of the seat.
Thanks

Do you have a picture of your rear springs? I am running the exact same setup and have absolutely zero noise of any kind. If you have a go pro, maybe you could mount it on your frame pointed at the springs and flex on a curb or something to see what could be causing the noise. Maybe the upper mount didn't seat correctly?

Yea I’ve had the same thought about the GoPro. I have pics but it looks all good setup wise. When it’s wet it’s MUCH MUCH louder and more frequent of a popping when I hit even mild dips. Do you take your 4rnr offroad frequently. I’m assuming so. Thanks for the input bud.

The best thing about Dobinsons after the performance and price is the customer service. Just call them and discuss your wants/needs and they'll put a tailor-made package together for you. There's no reason at all to just grab parts from Amazon - they're super friendly and helpful and it's the same price.

There is a reason, if you have an amazon card, 5% off. I wish they would just put their items on there so we could order....

Ok hopefully you guys can educate me. I am looking at C59-448 for 3” in the front(3”) and C59-325 for the back (2”). I currently have bilstein 5100 installed. Will that combo work? Also, is leveling required for driver side lean and if yes what are you guys using and where? Thanks for the help!

reaching out again...

Hey all, still trying to figure out my "popping" rear coil situation. Is anybody running bilstein 5100 all around with the 59-300 front and 59-599 rear? If so, have you experienced any sounds or coil slipping when flexing? Especially in wet terrain? Please reach out to me if so. Thanks guys

Put my dobison kit to use this weekend at windrock. Awesome kit! Much better than my 5100 and wheelers setup. Very happy.

Using the extended rear sway bar links allowed me to keep the 325 rear coils in place. I adjusted them for the most droop while keeping the coils in place with the long travel struts and 3” extended bump stops. Very pleased with the flex i was able to gain without going up to a 3” rear spring.

Looks really good man, nice wheel travel in the rear. And it looks like those C59-325 are supporting the rear pretty well too, with that rack and tent on. Wish I could have joined you guys up there this weekend, but the 13-14hr drive each way just wouldn't have been fun.

I'll be out at Jambo in Texas this coming weekend, in case anyone here will also be attending.

I have a blown front oem shock, and since I need to replace, I figure I want to upgrade my suspension. I’m an overlander, not a rockcrawler, and not particularly interested in a lift as I don’t want to jeopardize on road performance, handling, mpg significantly. Yet I do off road a fair amount in the mountains and desert, and a modest list of an inch or so (which gains back the clearence I lost when I installed RCI aluminum skids) would be acceptable. I have a Baroud hard shell rooftop tent, shockworks sliders, a group 31 front battery upgrade, and will often have a medium load out in the back. I had just ordered 6112 and 5100s, but probably going to cancel do to backorder on the 6112s. Do you have any recommendations for a complet kit with better shocks/springs without a large lift?

Hey man. I'd suggest the 2" front and 1" rear lift.

C59-300 front coils
GS59-700 front struts
C59-599 rear coils
GS59-705 shocks

That's the same parts these guys in these photos recently installed. Nothing too tall at all, adds some ground clearance, supports extra weight, and maintains 1" or so of rake for loading up.

It's a good lift height with stock sized tires, as it doesn't look out of the ordinary. And no other parts are required. That's $865 delivered in the 48 states.

I just installed the RCI aluminum Integration skid, steel transmission skid and steel transfer case skid plates. I also installed the Pelfreybilt hidden winch mount with an Engo 9000 S winch. The front has definitely come down. I've lost an inch and a half. Front hub center to fender measurements before and after are 21" and 19.5". I have a TRD Pro with stock suspension with stock tires. If I count the added weight to the front end from the transmission forward I have added 150 lbs.

RCI Rock Sliders 110 lbs
RCI Aluminum Integration Skid 10 lbs
RCI Transmission Skid 30 lbs
RCI Transfer Case Skid 30 lbs
C4 Fabrication Fuel Tank Skid 65 lbs
Pelfrey Hidden Winch Mount 45 lbs
Engo 9000 S Winch 55 lbs

Total Weight Mods 345 lbs

I have no imediate plans to add more weight. Ideally I would like to just get a set of front springs to put on my stock 1500 Bilstiens to bring the front end back up to stock height or maybe 2" of lift. Is there such a spring? I cannot afford a full suspension swap right now. Any suggestions?

P.S. No spacers please. Thanks Brian

Just beginning my research and looking at the C59-302's ?!

TRD Pro = different coils

We don't have front coils out yet to replace the OE coils on a Pro with heavier weight. Only to add 1". See post #1 in this thread, down towards the bottom.

Our 1" or 2" HD coils is what you will need, but we're still many months out from having those.

Thanks for the reply. Perhaps OME 885's will fit the bill ?!

No, those won't work either. All the regular coils on the market are for 2"/50mm body struts, but you have a 2.5" TRD Pro (Bilstein 6112) and they use different coil end configurations top and bottom to stock coils.

That's why we're making new coils, but it takes a while to R&D them.

Yeah I just saw that on Toytecs site. Looking into King Coils SPR 3-14-600. I'm planning a long road trip and need something before June. Otherwise I'd wait to see what you guys come up with. Thanks again.

King carries the same springs Dobinsons is R&Ding ? What PNs ?

Does the GS59-574 LT struts provide more down travel, like some of the 2.5" coil over kits do? And it looks like they preload the suspension by 1", so they'll ride a little stiffer than the 700 strut.. is that right?

Yes, they're about 1" longer than the GS59-700 for more down travel. They have different internal valving than the 700's, so they wouldn't really compare. The strut is longer and we're using a 2" coil on them, so they don't get preloaded very much at all.

On nice!

I’m 99% sure I’m going with some sort of Dobbins kit. I see your coming out with a coil for the pro suspension, and I can wait for that (I’m planning on doing a lift in the fall). So for overall best ride, should I get the pro springs when they come out, and source the pro kit? Or is it not worth the extra $$$?
