Doc's ZRV(Pic Heavy)

Sounds like she needs a muffler.:uzi:

Lets go wheeling....

She does. Custom exhaust soon to come.

And I'm 2WD. I need either a Lefty, Clocking ring, or a rear locker(thinking Spartan for right now, unless I find the paper with what I need to rebuild my ARB.)

I realized my ring was broken when I went to put the t-case onto the trans.

I might just see if I can get an old gear case and the adapter from Inchworm.

Gotta look into it.

Screw the clocking ring and lefty case. Who cares about center ground clearance, if you never off road it.

Save yourself a bunch of money and put the transfercase back to stock location. You have had nothing but problems with this set up.

What benefit is there going with the this set up? None that I know of...

The Clocking ring and Lefty t-case are fantastic.

AND, I do plan on running it off road. Actually thinking about SASing it, because I can get an '85 axle for free. Now that I don't have to worry about it being my DD, shes going to be built, and time taken in makins sure it's right. Before I would just rush it because I had no time and not another car. Now, I do have another car, and can build her right.

If I do that, I just need a gear driven t-case, and I'm golden.

The Lefty is a better alternative to the clocking ring, because it uses the same bolts as the t-case now does.

The clocking ring has to be drilled out in order for the bolts to be used.

The fact that I don't have to worry about the t-case or transmission hitting the ground and being hung up is awesome to me.

Besides, I can't put the transmission in the stock place. Not with my engine lift and custom crossmember. THAT's my problem. The other shit for the crossmember is gone. Cut and ground off.

I can probably build another crossmember to keep it 4WD for right now, but I'll have to look into that a little more.

We'll see what I come up with.

Been a while. A long while.

Haven't had a lot of stuff to work on. Mainly small stuff. Stuff in the garage. Nothing crazy. Just stuff I'll put here at some point or another.

One thing I did was the snorkel.

Then I stripped the interior. Everything. And added Peel 'N Seal.

That's about 2.5 rolls. From the firewall to the rear bases of the seat. Gonna add some to the firewall, up further, and then keep going.

Gonna hopefully continue tomorrow.

I've got a few more projects in mind, working the details out on.

Ordered a set of FX-Rs from TRS.

I'll keep it up.

Eh. I cleaned all my shit out. EVERYTHING. The AC, heater core, blower motor, vents, dash, ect. I painted the dash support, the radio supports, ect.

Figured I'd leave it out while I did this peal n seal deal. Lol.

This build thread is a friggin' journey, man ... like a strange shroom trip through the Appalachians .... and I love it. Keep up the work

We have similar interest Doc! This was my 1st 4R from a few years ago

Build thread looks great man!

A.Wilson013, here's the update.

This was three rolls of Peel 'N Seal. Chuckles89, I don't see how you only used 3.5 rolls. I'm looking at AT LEAST 4.5 for the floor, probably 8-9 for the whole thing. Maybe I went a little overkill?

But, as Hannibal Smith says:

"Overkill is underrated", right?

Still better than cheaper than Dynamat or anything else. Lol.

This, coupled with the above pics.

Did 99.999% of the passenger compartment. Some strips that are open, but that shouldn't matter too much. .25" gap, in one place, maybe two.

Didn't do the trunk yet. Have some stuff I need to do back there. Patch some holes (the factory ones that I don't have the plugs for), and cut out where I use to have the roll bar mounted, patch it, and drill new holes and weld bolts and reinforcement plates for the new spot.

Another thing I needed to take care of, I completely forgot about.

The back "fender" of the truck is two pieces that are spot welded and bent. When I trimmed the fenders for the 37s, I lost that joint. Had to fix it before I added the Peel 'N Seal to that area. Didn't want that shit catching fire.

I forgot how much I HATE upside down welding.

Didn't get the passenger side done today, so those will be the before pics.

That gap is what I had to fix.

And this is the drivers side. I plan on welding 3/16" rod around the wheel well for a cleaner look.

Sorry for the not so decent pics. It got dark.

Now I'm debating on getting cracking on the FX-R, or showering and vegging for a little bit.

Wow doc! It took me 2 days while playing platoon babysitter to get through your build.....not a single second wasted imo.

I am looking to go to a flat belly as well. I just have the fuel rank to figure out. Only difference in mine is i am using the flat belly to get a couple extra inches of clearence without maxxing the ifs out.

I am very glad I read your thread as I was going to do just 1.5" for a bl as well. Just kinda curious how the clocking ring was messing everything up. I was planning on going with the clock tcase crossmember from fror and the bud built ring.

One of the most unique builds I've seen man. Can't wait to see what happens with the trailer and the 997 either lol. I REALLY want to get my hands on one of those.

Thanks man. It's a journey. Lol.

My brother did the f150 tank, and a damn good job of it, in one of his 4Runners.

I'm going to do the same thing. Said he got about 20gal into it.

Don't know what you mean about the clocking ring messing things up? Only issue I had was over looking the shaving of the adapter, and then it breaking. And having to clearance the floor.

IMHO, I would go with the Lefty and 4.7 crawl ratio. It's expensive, but well worth it. Don't have to worry about a chain breaking, get the flat belly, and do t have to worry about the ring breaking.

Yeah, if you add support to the t-case, you'll probably be ok, but the you don't have to drill out the holes with the lefty.

I just used some 3/8"x6" wide steel to make my crossmember.

If you've got any questions, feel free to PM or call me.

I will certainly do that but first I gotta find out whether I'm getting promoted or not lol.

Reason I was disappointed in the clocking ring is if I am throwing down cash on parts I prefer them to fit and perform well. I would be very disappointed but I will be watching for the same issue. Wife cleared me hot to do flat belly if I get SSgt lol which is nice. I definitely will hit you up especially if I happen to be on the east coast later this year.

The clocking ring is great. It's recommended to go with a 2" lift, IIRC, but I only had 1.5". I didn't have any kind of support in the back of the case, which looking back I should have added something small to the back of the crossmember I made. I will next time.

Like I said, I would go with the Lefty instead of the ring though. Great for a "budget" flat belly, but save up for the Lefty.

Must be nice to be cleared hot. Lol. If I try and "get approval", mine complains. That's why I just do covert ops.

Hopefully you will get SSGT. And get your ass over here. I'll be here for a while, even though I'm getting out.
