I ordered a bumper in December 2012. They took a 50% deposit for the order and was quoted 3 months lead time. At the end of February I had not heard from them so I called. My call was received with, "Uhhh. Hmmm. Hold on..." Then I was told it was going into production that week! WTF?

I don't hear anything else for another week so I call again. This time I'm told the bumper will be done at the end of the month (March). Great! I had a trip already planned to be in Houston the last weekend of the month. I told them I would be there and wanted pick it up in person to save on shipping and they said, "OK, I'll put a note on the order."

One week before I head down to Houston, I call to confirm that it will be ready. I was told it was in the last stages of production, but there is no way they'll have it back from powder coat. I told them to skip the powder coat and I would handle it myself. The response I got was, "Well, it still won't be ready for pickup." At this point, I'm really getting pissed.

So, flash forward to mid April and I get a call saying my credit card was declined. WTF, they didn't call and ask me if they could charge the other half! Luckily the old card had expired so the info they had was bad. If an unexpected $1000 transaction went through my account without my permission I would have been furious!

I got the payment straightened out and was told by Mark that it was at powder coat, would be back on April 23rd and I should have it by Friday April 26th (I'm in Dallas).

It never comes so I call again on the 29th. Mark tells me that it just came back from powder coat that day (29th) and again tells me I'll have it by the end of the week, Friday May 3rd.

Today is May 5th and I have not received the bumper, a call with tracking, an apology, explanation, etc... The outstanding balance on my order was charged almost a month ago. I have been told it was ready to ship for 3 weeks now and keep getting excuses when I call.

I have been delaying writing this review out of fear that they will retaliate by delaying my order further, but I can't handle it anymore.

DO NOT BUY FROM SHROCKWORKS!

Wow guess you didn't hear about the lead times before you bought. Shrockworks makes an awesome product. You probably got bumped due to group buys. Granted I know it is not the way to run a company but I have been very happy with each product I have ordered.

Even when I had a problem they were quick to make it right.

You will be happy with the product once you get it. But sorry about all the frustration.

As for the payment that is how it was always set up for me. I would call to make the deposit and was told once the product was in final stages the card would be charged without a phone call. I would then know my shipping confirmation was soon to follow.

I have heard all the stories about their lead time, but when they quote the timeline I don't expect them to double it. On top of that, how is it that they can tell me it's shipping 3 different weeks and I have yet to receive it. I would be embarrassed if it were my company and I read half of the terrible reviews about them.

wow, it never ends with the crap they put their customers through.

that company needs some business coaching in a bad way. they may make quality products but that's no way to run a business.

I love the look of their bumpers but I don't know if I'd order one. Demello seems a lot more reliable and still a great looking bumper.

Look, I've been to the Shrockworks shop, and watched them do some of the welding/assembly. I know how they operate. They assemble these bumpers, one at a time. They do not cut corners nor cheap out on the finish. Yes, lead times suck. Yes, they SOMETIMES have orders delayed, but the end product is worth it. I had one assembled for my Nissan Xterra several years ago and was also there the day that they were testing the 4th gen T4R prototype bumper (2006, I think). It was cool to watch as my wife had a 4th gen at the time and the gears in my head were turning.

I understand your frustration, but I think in the end, it will have been worth the wait. BTW, after almost 7 years, that bumper on my Xterra has not rusted one iota and looks as good now as the day I bought it. Can't say the same for the Calmini rear bumper that I put on the back of my Xterra. It has all kinds of rust on it. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

I had a similar issue with Shrockworks in terms of their delay, its an extremely common issue with them. Mark was very helpful when he responded to my emails and threw in a free snatch strap as a thank you for patience in the matter, he even shipped out the set of powdercoated D-Rings I ordered that weren't in my original shipped item next day at no charge.

They make a great product and I feel my money was well spent! I haven't had issues with the bumper and honestly its it top quality. That being said, I was disappointed with how long it took to get mine, but I am happy I got it finally.

They make the bumpers in Batch Orders and that does delay things somewhat, the 4th gen bumpers are not the only product they make and they seem to be in need of expansion last we heard from them officially.

As long as the orders are coming in, they have no incentive to change and they won't - they'll keep screwing up their production schedule and charging customers through the nose for the privilege of waiting.

I would never support a company with such a horrible business ethic, no matter how nice I thought their products were. There's always another shop with the same skills and better customer service to take my money to.

I ordered one knowing it was one of the best made bumpers out there and also knew that there was a long wait time. I fully expect to have it in that window or get another 10% discount on this amazingly built bumper. You cant rush art. .or something like that.

i'm trying to order some sliders and when i called shrockworks to find out about a lead time on sliders they told me 3 months, then i called CBI to ask their lead time on sliders and they said i would have them in 3 weeks!

Then I called for suppliers with materials and can have them put together in
3 days.

I think the OP's frustration as well as most peoples with them is that the tell people one thing and then fail to deliver on it. That's all. It's a great way to piss a customer off. If they'd just be straight forward with them and say, "look, it'll be at least 6 months", then they know up front. Don't tell somebody it'll be ready in 3 if you can't deliver on that. Don't tell people their product is shipping when it's not.

I work in manufacturing and a 6 month lead time for a steel bumper is ridiculous. It's a bumper, not a hand built car for goodness sake.

The whole issue here is they can't keep even the smallest deadline. They have been telling me for weeks now that it is done and shipping, "that day" which is a complete lie. And if it was done, why does it take 2-3 weeks for them to ship the damn thing? If I didn't know better, I'd say they had never done this before. I get the impression there is no control on their production schedule. After YEARS of business, no excuse is good enough to justify their problems. I have no doubt it's an amazing product, but it's terrible management.

One week before I head down to Houston

What is the insinuation?

I wish

what? you make sliders? lol

LOL, no, I just have the capabilities to do work like that. I just use my abilities in construction work and my big rig.

But, I to have a SW bumper. I also was given a lead time of 4 months on mine. I ordered mine knowing there history and had flex time between. I was given the shipping notice at 4 1/2 month, and actual delivery at the 5 month mark. I wasn't going to be under pressure until the 6 month mark.

It is a great product, and I like the look better than some of the others out there w/ out making my own mods to them.

Still, bad business ethics for what they tell people, I NEVER DO THAT TO MY CLIENTS, I'M STRAIGHT FORWARD, and let them make the choice to wait.

As far as sliders, I would go with the INNOVATIONS, as I can mount them at preferred angle and length sticking out for the price of buying material and bending, ect.

Mtn.Runner can make you a bumper with your choice of options in about 2 weeks....comparatively speaking, thats right around the speed of light?

The same thing happened to me except I ordered sliders. After 3.5months and being told "done in 2 weeks" on several occasions, I cancelled my order. In fact when I cancelled my order I was told "I give you my WORD that the sliders will be done in 2 weeks", I then asked why he wasnt giving me his "word" before? He had no answer.
