DRL Disable but keep Auto Headlights

Pin2?

I'm not exactly sure what pin on the relay is pin 2. Does anyone know if you count from the wider side or the other side? I tried from the wide side by bending the pin next to the wide one down and it caused one side of the brights to not operate. Not sure what it did to the DRL because I didn't realize at the time that the truck had to be running for the DRLs to work. If the pin next to the wider pin is pin 2 then I know that the brights will not operate correctly.

Has anyone come up with a way to disable DRL and leave the headlight switch in auto or has anyone figured out this pin 2 or green wire mod?

I have added halo's and LED strips to mine that run independent of the DRLs but want to be able to disable the DRL yet still have brights and use the auto headlights.

Look back at post # 10 at the PDF files, it has the picture of pin# orientation.

When you get it to work, please post up pictures of everything, explaining with details so it will help everyone interested!

Mod to turn off the DRL on gen 5 2014

It was very simple. I pulled the relay and instead of cutting pin 2 I bent it down and formed it so that the relay can still be plugged in. Now my lights work in auto without the DRLs on and my modified headlights, halo's and LED tubes look great.

Another look with brights on

I pulled it in the garage and the auto works.

Kc_fan,

Can you pull the relay, take the best photo of the pins on the relay and repost it here?

The post with all of the lights on, I assume that from the "Auto On" feature working......
If you turn off the "Auto On" feature, does it work like other T4R's without "Auto On"?

Some more pics

Here's another pic, this is the relay showing pin 2 bent and formed. I'm not sure what you meant by the other question but I can tell you everything works now except for the DRL. The brights work the flash bright works and all other light functions. The auto works as designed and all other switch positions work as designed.

One more pic

This is the position of the relay in the fuse box. I could most likely bend pin 2 back in shape but that would weaken the pin so I wouldn't want to do it more than once.

I hope this helps.

Thanks to KDCANE and SAKER!

Thank you.
I will give this a try on my non-auto headlight system on my SR5 and report back with the results.

DRL Disabled on Non "Auto" Headlights System

DRL Disabled on Non "Auto" Headlights System on my SR5 Premium.
So disabling them is the same as Auto Headlight systems, by bending pin #2 out of the way without any adverse issues!
I used a pair of needle nosed pliers to bend the pin down and firmly to the side as pictured.

DRL's don't come on.
Parking lights function as normal.
Low Beams and fogs function as normal.
High Beams function as normal.
Tail lights, stop lights and turn signals function as normal.

Thanks to KDCane for starting this thread!
Thanks Kc_fan for trying this and taking the photos for the rest of us! :first:

So, here are my photos of the relay and the parking lights on and NO DRL's !

Wonderful!!!!!

This has been on my list for a while, thank you for actually executing on it!

:hail:

Now, I just would like to know how to tape off that signal which go to pin2, and use it to drive a different light system. :D

Kc_fan , by the way, I would like to know which "halo" product did you use, and did you have picture of the install?

I will provide more confirmation that this works like a charm.

Just take a flathead screwdriver and push the pin back. Took all of 10 seconds.

Thanks KC Fan for actually trying this based on the information that was posted before!

I suppose the good thing is if you ever wanted to have DRL again you could either bend the pin back or get a new relay. No wires had to be cut.

I have to say I am thoroughly pleased with the outcome of this easy mod not to have DRL's burning and my parking lights on.

Knowing it's not for everyone, but that's ok too, as they don't have to do anything and keep their DRL's.

Definitely reminds me of old school, BDRL (before Daytime Running Lights).

Cheers!
