Duratrac Pricing....Black vs White Sidewall Lettering

I am trying to hunt down a deal on some 285/70/17 Duratracs. All the "good" pricing I can find is on the white lettered tires. I was trying to stick with BSW, but I am having no luck tracking them down. Sam's club has the white lettered tires for the best price I have found so far @ $253 and free shipping to their store. Discounttiredirect.com will match the price for me, but they only have the white lettered tires as well.

Anyone have a lead on where I can get BSW 285/70/17 Duratracs for around $250 a tire and free shipping?

Anyone ordered the white lettering and blacked it out themselves? I am sure one would have to keep appliying, but maybe just a black sharpie or something.

Try talking to phillyd2, he took white lettering off his Duratracs. Hope it helps.

I think the 285/70R17 D load (and 265/70R17 C load) have white letters on one side, whereas the 265/70R17 E load have no white letters on either side.

Turn the white side in and after they get dirty you won't notice it.

thats a good price on those tires from Sams club, i'll have to look into that.. i wonder if Costsco will do it too?

I didn't think about there only being white lettering on one side....I just assumed it was the same on both. Anyway, for $250 a tire I think I will be pulling the trigger tomorrow. Thanks for all the input.

Now I must surf the forum for the fender mod threads. Hopefully that is the only issue I will have. I don't have aftermarket UCAs, so I am concerned about body mount rubbing with my low caster setting.

what did you do.. just ask them to order the duratracs and they said ok? its showing that my store doesn't have it.. but if i went in i guess they'll order it

Sams club wont install anything other that factory sized tires IAW their company liability policy.... just a heads up

I did call my local SAMs club to ask about ordering. The website just listed them as special order which means you have to wait a week or so. Just as the above post states, they did tell me that they do only do installs on factory specified sizes. However that did not hinder them from ordering them for me and then me picking them up to have installed elsewhere.

right my only point is most places charge MORE to mount/balance tires not purchased from them.... may negate the savings from Sams. You can get them from Discounttire, have them faster and support a T4R vendor.... just food for thought

Maybe I wasn't clear before...I have talked to discount tire, and they told me they would match pricing with free shipping to my door step (or wherever I want them to go). I have made all my tire purchases to date from them and that is my full intention. FYI SAMs charges $15 a tire and provides a pretty decent warranty along with that. Most places around here charge $20 or less for mount and balance no matter where I buy them from.

Not to try to steal this thread, but what are the differences in those tires with E vs C load rating other than can pull more weight and stiffer sidewall I presume? I'm considering getting these in 265, or 285 if I can sack up.

Big difference in ride quality between E and C. If not balanced correctly, E rated will give you a ride like an F350 truck. More durable in E but if your an occasional off road user C rated will be more friendly for the highway.

10' Xterra Off Road right after buying new Rugged Terrains and they let me transfer the lifetime balance/road hazard to the new 13' T4R TE factory tires. They can force balance each wheel and tire to find the heavy spot in each and give you the best ride possible.

FYI...285/70/17 Duratracs are ONLY available in D load rating. The 265 are available in C or E.

Unfortunately we don't have any physical discount tire locations around here. I wish we did because I have heard nothing but good things from everyone and anyone who uses them. I just have to rely on the discounttiredirect.com pricing/shipping/customer service
