Easy Weekend Mods

Interesting! How would this effect emissions testing? Anyone in CO have any issues with our new emissions testing after this mod??

I'd really like to plastidip my grill as it has some road damage but I know the plastidip doesn't cover that stuff up. Not sure how to go about it. Its for a black 4runner. I don't really want something that stands out though.

It'll cover up some damage, but won't be perfect. Deep pits and scratches may show thru, depending how thin you're spraying the dip (just like any paint job).

Amazon. Was about $40 for 4 of them. Pretty damn bright too. I ended up welding a bracket to attach both of them too, and since I dont have a spare below, there is plenty of room to work with. Sorry for the crappy phone pic

could post more the mount you made, been looking into doing this

last 2 weeks

last two weeks my rig has been in the shop. So no fun for me working on anything. An overlanding trip 400 miles away in virginia i get side swiped. Rear bumper shredded. Worked out my insurance and I was able to buy alot of new toys. the body shop left me with a lot of extra money. so i upgraded to an OME rear suspension and a CBI rear swing out bumper!

Came out great! Looks much better than stock.

With that color red and black grille. you should look into blacking out your headlight housings.

I was on the fence when I did it to mine. Wasn't that tough to do. But after I did it I was completely sold. I justified it because a lot of newer vehicles come with black housings anyways. And really chrome is dated at this point. It still keeps its stock plus look I think. Just an idea... nice truck.

Installed the Classy Autos Toyota 4Runner White Interior LEDs last week. I've been pleased so far, much brighter than stock.

Got them on Amazon for $11 or so

Replaced skid plate front bolts after running a tap through the threads. Getting things ready to be able to replace the timing belt in the next week.

I will probably end up moving the switch to the far right and getting rid of the rsca button all together, then use the open space for future light upgrade.

Something to remember about doing the HCF mod. Anytime an engine takes in more air it will need more fuel. On a EFI equipped engine the ECM will adjust for this. If it didn't then you will be running too lean. Just remember, more air = more fuel.

On the Limited models with the factory running boards you have a light on each end. The wires for these lights come down from under the front seats, into a rubber grommet and out under the car to the lights on the running board. These are on the timed circuit with the dome lights. If you install foot well lights they are perfectly located to tap into.

and more fuel equals more go for the same throttle opening

(but probably other limitations arise on the way to full throttle, no free lunch)

For those who have done this mod, does it really improve power, throttle response, etc? Can you not simply cut the "screen" out of the frame rather than ripping out the entire frame?

i noticed better/faster throttle response when i removed it initially. didnt observe any mpg increase...after a while i put back the hcf filter....then removed it about 6months ago.

i was seriously amazed at the increased throttle response, and also mpg increase...about 2 or 3mpg increase on the dash display.

cutting it out, you would loose the capability to put it back when you want. best to break/drill out the plastic rivets

I did the hcf delete. I'm No engineer but it seems it would be easier to draw air into the engine without the secondary filter.

Yeah I was wondering the same thing but was a little apprehensive about cutting things that can't be replaced
