Tissue Holder upgrade
I was going crazy trying to find the now discontinued old size of the Kleenex Juniors box for the tissue holder in my armrest when I finally decided to take matters into my own hands.
I bought a full size box of Kleenex at the car wash: 85 2-ply tissues (8.2x8.4in)
Removed the armrest. There are 4 screws holding the armrest lid on behind the plastic tissue box holder. There are two clips holding the tissue box holder in place, one on either side, carefully pop them off by pushing down towards the armrest hinge and pulling away from the lid.
Saw that the tissues from the Kleenex box were already the right width for the armrest, just a little too long. So I took them out of the box and cut them down to 6.5".
I tested out a few materials before finding a nice little sheet of black formica that I had lying around from an old cabinetry project (I make furniture). I cut this piece of formica down to fit over the entire cubby with a notch cut out at the bottom to slide into the recess for the Kleenex box (see photos).
I cut out a slot in the formica cover for the Kleenex to come out of and I cut out and attached the top of the Kleenex box to the underside of the formica to reuse the plastic opening that the tissues come out of.
I drilled two holes to line up with the two screws in the underside of the lid of the armrest. I removed the two old screws and found two longer screws of the same size to hold down this new Kleenex cover, and voilà!
Now I have a clean and functional tissue holder in my arm rest that holds larger tissues than the Kleenex Juniors box ever did and I don't have to worry about stockpiling hard to find Kleenex boxes. This might even work with the nicer 3-ply tissues, or extra soft and less dusty variations. To refill the armrest ill have to remove the two screws and cut some new tissues down to length.
