EatonKyleH's Build Thread

I grabbed a trailer on Craigslist for dang cheap!
It's an M416 and although it will need some work to be to my liking it was ready for me to throw the tent on it and use it for the rest of out summer trips as is before tearing it down this winter.

This is how I got it. The top is wood covered in fiberglass which i will change. The frame and tub are straight and have very little rust but the paint is poorly done. Something to be said for a usable rig in the meantime though.

I had a pretty rough one of these awhile ago that was way worse than this and a project to even get usable at all that I sold for more than this one cost me so I'm happy. The wife would not have been happy had I come home with another unusable tub.

I'll post more about it this winter when I start building it. Big plans!

Also wrote a trip report about a journey we did a few weeks ago!

Just read through your build. Sweet 3rd gen and great progress from the start. I used to have a 2nd gen Tacoma, though it was a Prerunner. Still the 3.4 was always good to me and I wish I would have supercharged it for sure. I bet that's a fun mod. I've also had a 4.0 Tacoma which was peppy and now a 4.7 V8 4Runner which is sooo nice! Probably the same power as a supercharged 3.4.

Thanks! It's been fun building it and way more fun using it to explore. The supercharger is definitely a big upgrade on the 3.4. With all the heavy junk I have on this thing I cant imagine going back to NA.

Jealous of that trailer! Love my tent but its heavy up top!

Thanks dude! It's gonna be a project for sure but it's usable as is so I was stoked on that.
Pros and Cons to trailer vs roof top for sure.
I really didn't want it on top of the truck for the Jambo because I didn't want to tear it down every morning and set it up again every night. And now that we have a roof top tent my wife wont sleep in the ground tent haha!
Your rack looks killer though and nice and low though!

In other news:
I've been working on an on board air setup and filling some dead space along the fridge. Scored this stuff on the Expo portal classifieds.

Just got caught up on your thread, great read! Quite a roller coaster.

I am really looking forward to seeing your truck in action next weekend and checking out all the progress in person!

Thanks man! And likewise! When I started this whole thing I often read over your first build drooling and trying to get that sorta look.

It'll be a great time and I'm sure you'll love it out here!

Well the 2016 Toyota Jamboree was killer as usual!

Being my 3rd year at the event it was really cool to see a lot of the friendships Lindsey and I made during the first event and through the interweb really turn into something. And meeting so many others; that little community of awesome people has really grown into something special we both really enjoy.

I didn't really take any pictures because between Chris, Hayden, and Alex snapping away I felt there were enough cooks in the kitchen and didn't want my ugly ass in frame all the time.

In other news....

I tore another Duratrac sidewall at the Jambo (that makes 2 I've ruined in about a year)

I bought another 3rd gen for $500. Its manual trans, locked, desert dune (essentially what I already have lol) It had a lower ball joint failure and the previous owner didn't want it after that.
So I'm flipping it and already have the approval to buy 35s and long travel from my lovely and understanding wife.

I'll have probably 14 naked cats when all this is done. But things should get pretty interesting here soon.

If anyone reading this happens to see a used Camburg or Total Chaos (with boxed lower arms) long travel kit come up anywhere on the web I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know.

otherwise I'll be waiting a month and cyber monday is gonna get a solid cybering from me.

Ooooo, long travel? Now we're talking! Always making your 4runner one of the best out there. Excited for this!

Thanks Hayden!

I'm pretty excited about it man. I had a hard time choking down the price of moving forward with it but I've used every strategy I could come up with to make it seem the most logical option.

Wanna hear a few?

1. I'm debt free. I won't go into debt buying long travel.
2. November is my 10 year anniversary at my shop (buy myself a gift!)
3. My Birthday is in November! (MORE GIFTS FOR ME!!)
4. My work bonus for my 10 years covers the cost.
5. I flipped a 4Runner recently. Made enough to buy it already on that.
6. Building anything else is going to cost a lot more than continuing this.
7. People on the internet will think I'm cooler:rofl:

and the biggest one.
8. I told Lindsey "I dunno, it's a lot of money... we could do a lot of other things with that money...." She responds. "I just think you should buy it!"
