Also the fit is smaller, I did a couple of measurements and ... well you'll see. It's probably fine, I'll add some extra water sealing material from homedepot. Only 1 real spot to worry about...

I believe the last picture is the brand TYC?

well isn't that strange. btw, you did a great job on the retro. they look really good. There should be a brand stamped on the outside of the lens. I'm just trying to determine if we have the same ones (mine are also from Taiwan). Here is what is stamped on the outside of mine:

Nice thread Phil, thanks. I just read it and its funny they're comparing the two bands that we are comparing here. We now know how the TYC's fit, and when I mount mine we will see how Depos fit.

Depos are close to the same. I checked and I have depos on pasenger and TYC on the driver side.

Overall, they aren't terrible but as you can see the match sucks. 1 potential water leak that I'll need to patch up with some duck seal or something on the inside.

I went with OEM headlights for my retrofit. Yes, they were more expensive but I didn't want fitment or other issues. So far I have no issues, not even the hazing I had with the original headlights (although I do apply Wolfgang Plastik sealant once a month).

Btw, nice work on your retrofit!

TYC (Genera) has been making headlight / tail light replacements directly for toyota for years now. I am fairly sure that Toyota outsources a good part of the manufacturing process to TYC.

Depo, however, is a known knock off maker. some of their headlight designs are unique, but have a very bad rep (ie civic, tC)

btw, for those with the aftermarket, for any parts you might be concerned about leaks, you can fill it up with duck seal, 2 bucks and not permanent and very flexible. like dough.

Deekoi, do you think that your fitment issues might be fixed a bit by loosening the screws and tightening them down with better placement? I'm curious, because I too am pretty picky about that kind of stuff, and before I send my (DEPO) lights back for a refund and buy OEMs, I want to make sure.
 
^ that's what I'm going to try and do. I'm betting a combination of washers, spacers, and fanageling will get them to sit right

Probably won't do much good since the back housing is the about the right size. If you loosen up the screws and get creative then it will lessen the inside gap but increase the outside gap. Right now, the outside doesn't have much of a gap.

After a couple of days of driving, you don't notice it much. Because mine is a mag gray it blends in better.But I'm a bit picky about these things too... I've been considering pulling the whole thing out and retrofiting my stock headlights. Plus my aim is a little off... (like I said, aiming was the hard part)

On a side note: the projectors are awesome! HUGE difference and I came from HID already. The cutoff is amazing. Simple beautiful :reddance:
 
I went ahead and got an RMA for mine. I think I'll just spend the money on the OEM trail lgihts and avoid the possible fitment hassles. The first email AMAutoparts was a little defiant, but their second email included an RMA number and a promise of a full refund (which I would have received anyway). So, OEMs, here we go.

if you're getting OEM, and doing the retro yourself, don't worry about getting trail lights (unless they are available for the same price). one you take them apart, painting the bezel will be extremely easy and the least of your concerns.
 
Yup, thanks! They're the same price :)

The only thing that has me concerned about doing it myself is the possibility of water vapor forming condensation in the light. Is this something I need to be concerned with or no?
 
I wouldn't worry about that. after you take them apart there is plenty of adhesive left to stick them back together. Add an extra bead of silicone before you put them back on and you'll be moisture free
