eBay uniball control arms?

They should offer a bit, but if not enough you can get the thin .25 or .5 inch spacers. Those shouldn't cause much if any added suspension pressure.

Would you just try the 1/4" spacer and keep the stock UCA's? I am having a problem with the wheel studs being too short with the 1.25" spacers to bolt the lugs up with enough threads.

Personally, I don't like the idea of wide wheel spacers due to added pressure on the balljoints, though my personal quirks may be unsubstantiated.

I think the UCA's are a great upgrade outside of just added clearance, so I would say UCA's, these or the common ones are worth it.

Well I bought these thought I would give them a try.
Not even a month in. Just drove from nyc to LA and this happens. It could have been a very dangerouse. It looks like the bolt sheered.

well i guess the only positive thing i can deduce from this is that its not the upper control arm. hardware is pretty simple to replace and easy to tell quality. gotta lose that grease on the uniball too

I am in the middle of a 3000 mile trip on mine. Hopefully this will not happen... I wonder if they were torqued correctly?

Could the bolt be upgraded to a grade 8?

I am in the middle of a 3000 mile trip on mine hopefully they don't fail. I wonder what bolt is used? Could grade 8 bolts be swapped in? Was the bolt over tightened when installed, what should the torque be on this bolt?

I think most UCA's use 10.9 grade bolts, one step above grade 8. The 10.9 are metric only though, so could use a english grade 9 if it fits.

I I will take take a closer picture tomorow. And will upgrade the bolt. And change my axle that I got from O'Reilly. Truth is I like the ride of the uca. It might have been overtorked. Hopefully will have here fixed soon

In your picture, it looks like grungy grease around the ball.
I noticed on subspd had posted a picture also with grease on his when installed, was yours the same?

If not, wondering if when they installed the uniball, they packed the inside with grease also.

I looked at the bolts supplied with my Silver Suicide UCA's and they are Grade 8.8 metric. That is equivalent to grade 5 standard hardware.

I looked at the Total Chaos website and they stated they supply Grade 8 hardware with their UCA's.

Guess I'm gonna upgrade the hardware before I install.

For anyone watching this thread, and not the other one...

this could be a number of things unrelated to the product from eBay. The uniball post could have been loose so it would bounce around and displace the weight in the wrong areas. Also could have been over tightened. Could have been over extended where lack of down travel so it pulls on that post eventually causing it to snap.

But that guy uses the wrong grease and too much of the wrong grease. The hardware could be bad or not as good but just from that picture there is a lot of other things that could have led to it breaking that we dont know.

Ebay Silver UCA's

I purchased and installed the silver UCA's on my '99 4Runner a few weeks ago. The main issue I found with the kit was the length of the steel bushings that press into the red nylon bushings were .120" too short causing the long UCA bolt to crush the bushings before reaching torque specifications. I had to get new nylon bushings from the EBay seller and make my own longer steel bushings, (4) pcs 1.945" long. Then the kit went together just fine and is functioning just fine. I appreciate the seller replacing the red nylon bushings but he did not supply the necessary length steel bushings. Not everyone has access to a lathe to make the correct length bushings as I was able to do. Worth noting in the photo of the 4runner with the broken uniball bolt, it appears that the UCA's are installed upside down?? The zerk fittings have always been on the bottom of the arm and a reinforcement welded to the top. The angle of the arm looks wrong also.....perhaps upside down and left and right side swapped?? Hard to tell from the photo, just an observation. Glad no one was hurt!

Good eye! I looked at other installs of this product as well a Total Chaos UCA's and they do appear to be swapped and upside down. I'm not sure if this would increase the potential shear force on the bolt or not.
