Pardon the ignorance but what is BAFX and how do i get it? I'm happy if I can get 250 miles to the gal with about 1 gal left in the tank.

2WD... My 4Runner when it was new (V6 2WD auto w/ 15" wheels) would get 24-26mpg when driven at 65-70mph. 340 miles at 24mpg is 14.17 gallons - very doable.
Now with the 4WD system in place and larger tires (though regeared) I get 22 on road trips and aim for ~300 miles between fill ups on the highway.

I basically have to fill my tank till fuel is almost spilling out the fill neck, WHICH IS NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL, and coast as often as I can on downhills; but yeah, 340 miles was the farthest I dared to go without spare gas on board.
I regularly drive the 323 miles from the Arco station in Mohave, CA to Arco in Gardnerville, NV on a single tank of gas - more uphills than downhills in this direction.
Others have said they get best mileage at 65-70 Mph but I can't drive that slow for 8+ hours, so my RPM goal is a compromise between MPG and no tickets :thumb:
Watching my trans temps I learned when to click out of OD, and watching my RPMs I have found that I can get better gas mileage than just leaving OD on and getting my trans up to 225 degrees on uphills - so now I just downshift and watch my Rs
Ironically, I get better highway gas mileage in an 18 year old car than Toyota originally sold it new with running 87 octane. YMMV :cowboy:

There's a really popular scan gauge that everyone uses which has a basic screen(forgetting the name now), wonder if it does the same thing as your ODBII scanner? Don't want to rely on a phone.

ScanGaugeII, or the UltraGauge, but you have to have a 99 or later for Trans Temp to be accessible

Yep. If you have a 96-98 you can wire up an aftermarket gauge pretty easy. That's the route I ended up going in my 97. I played with PIDs(Parameter ID) in Torque Pro for hours to try and get it to read it. I'm tech geek who really likes math. I figured it'd be simple enough. It's not. Deci and Hex both failed. Toyota does not use the standard PID protocol for the trans temp. It was a bummer. But my piller gauge makes my truck look pretty bad ass. lol
