*EPIC TRIP* Taking my Trail on the Trail!!

DAY 3

I heard from Smittybilt today and all was well until the lady with the marketing company said based off me talking about them taking 3wks in my YouTube video that she was not going to submit it so therefore I won't be getting a Roof Top Tent to try I think it's kinda BS but whatever!! I was looking forward to that too!!!

In hindsight the one thing I do wish I had on my trip last year was a roof top tent. I didn't finally actually "camp" until I got to the Jamboree for 3 days at the end of the trip. The convenience of a simple pop open RTT would have been more encouraging to just find an empty spot to park. The tent I had with me requires about 10 or 15 minutes of setup and takedown and I was just too tired at the end of a lot of days to want to mess with finding a spot and getting it out.

This trip/thread is fantastic! Loving reading and seeing the pics. Sucks about the tire but it's awesome you were able to get it taken care of relatively easy!

I'm really enjoying this thread! I don't suppose you have ran across this guy yet? I was driving on the Mississippi R. levees yesterday evening and they were camped out on the bank near TN-KY state line.

Is that the Unamog that the Expedition Overland guys saw in Alaska? The German guy and his wife? That would be really random and one heck of a journey on their part!

I think it is the same one. It has the big dipper on the front and their website on the front www.dergrossewagen.eu. It was darker than the pic shows, therefore the blurry pic. Went back this morning and they were gone. Would've liked to talked to them.

Edit: Digging into their website, it looks like they are doing a new excursion for 2016... the end of the blue line is where I was yesterday.

I agree. Camping in the back is not bad though. This is why I got rid of my Tundra for the 4runner

Thanks, I'm glad you are enjoying it. I remember reading similar stories while at work and being so excited for the next day, my hope it thaty story excites and motivates folks the same way I was.

No I haven't. However while I was stopped at the TAT sign it they said there was a guy suppose to be coming. I wonder if that's him?? Also I'm the only one signed in to the Trail since 3.28 I would think anyone doing the Trail would stop and sign in!!!

DAY 4

Today has been good. I FINALLY found hot shower so mission accomplished!! The Bath house at the state park I stayed at last night. It was dark when I got there and thought there would be a good view of the lake but there wasn't. So after eating some eggs and taking a much needed shower I drove to look at it.

The camp site is here!!!

The lake is down there. I heard the water and slept great!!

YAY, a shower. I am ultimately just a bougie ass city boy so I was happy to have a warm shower!!! My solar shower pack is not working real well, the weather has been great but no sun!!!

This little big fella wanted to join me for the shower

I was so excited to take a shower I forgot to grab my towel. I made do by drying off with the dirty clothes!!!

For the most part Mississippi was pretty much the same as yesterday. Clay, farms, hills, repeat!!

There was some mud since it's been raining today

Crossed this cool bridge over a little River called the Mississippi River

In my video (I swear it's coming soon!!!!) I talked about the Casino that's at the very end of Mississippi, I didn't stop because IM GOING TO VEGAS!!!

Once in Arkansas I stopped at a Walmart to get some gas cans because I'm stressed about running out!! I don't think y'all understand, my 4rumner is my rock for this journey like without her I'm out of commission!!! Someone had mentioned that gas is scarce after the River so I packed about 5gal reserve!! I also got some window chalk!!

I asked the cashier where was a good place to eat and she recommended the Bistro in West Helena Arkansas

The waiter said to get a burger which is kinda what I wanted so that worked out.

DAY 4 Continued

After eating I was ready to get back to the Trail. After getting on I came across something I had only seen in pics!!

They don't claim to be official bit I say otherwise. What a great group of guys. Once I stopped to see Percy, Glenn and Al showed up!! Glenn convinced Percy, and me, that I needed a cold Budlight and Al claimed to be the official TAT Photographer!! I signed in

They publish a book every year with everyone that comes through. Isn't that cool as hell!!!!

No I did not get a pic in the Jail!!! I would never volunteer to go into Jail!!!

After vatji.g up with those guys over a beer I headed on. The country side was amazing

It was here I noticed that my rack has shifted. I beat it with the back of my hatchet and straighter it out. I tried my hardest to adjust it but my collarbone has been killing me (it's still broke!!) So I wasn't very effective. By the way this rack has been a complete pain in the ass!!! I'm glad to have it but it's hard to load unload and adjust

Shortly after that is when I ran into the mud!!!

I had apparently unintentionally split the storm!

Then more mud

It was about 5ish CST when I wanted to start thimking about finding somewhere to sleep! I had come across a road that was "closed" I asked a construction worker that was leaving if I could cross and he said no, so I wondered aground and came across some camp sights in the wildlife refuge along the trail

Not wanting to set up camp with only 2 beers left I was close to I40 and figured I could stock up close by, well nothing but dead ends that were not on the maps soooo I revisited the "closed" Rd and fou d it to be possible!! I went on into Helen AK and got some inventory! I didn't want to pass through the Rd again because I figured in the am they would be there and not let me through so I found another spot!!

And the beer is cold!! I will say however that it is muggy as hell and muddy as hell 59 degrees and I'm sweating! But the beer is cold!!!

By the way my rack, crooked again!?

When it's nice and I feel up to it I will fix it. I ate a pork chop, im so aick of pork chops im glad I ate the ladt one!! I called some family and now I'm drinking some beer listening to music next to my fire and loving life!!! I will catch up with y'all tomorrow!!

I would check out Restaurants on TV, Diners Drive-Ins and Dives, Man vs Food, Best Thing I Ever Ate & more and see if you can find any places on the way!

The pictures look awesome so far. I just checked out the map of the trail. Doesn't look like it runs through AZ . Bummer, I would've hit some trails with you!
