Ever clean your cabin filter???

So, I'm going in for 30K service tomorrow, and was looking at the 30K service recommendations and find the cabin filter = "replace".

I've never given this thing a thought. My 4R lives in a clean underground parking garage, never goes offroad, or on gravel etc. "What's to worry", right? Ergo, this filter's never seen the light of day.

I took it out to blow it out, and it was loaded with dust, dirt, and little pieces of leaves. I was amazed at how dirty. I also decided to wash it and reuse it, and the dirty water that came out even after the er, blow job? was, well really dirty. That was a bad idea BTW - I'll be getting a new one tomorrow.

So, just a heads up for y'all. I'll be blowing mine out regularly now. BTW, in the owner's manual it's listed as "Air Conditioning Filter".

A new one at retail is about $20.00(plus labor if shop installs it). Its worth it to replace it every 30k. Toyota says to clean it every 15k, and replace every other 15k.

yup. fits just like the original, philsey.

got mine on Amazon, but they seem to be out of stock at the moment. if your local parts store carries Bosch they'll likely order one if it's not a stock item.
 
I just replaced mine this weekend with one of the oem charcoal filters. Mine had 40k on it and my truck spends lots of time in the dirt, the filter was absolutely filthy, beyond cleaning. I think I will be checkin this more often now. :frog:
 
I change this every quarter, I know its overkill, but at $16 I really find this an easy way to keep my truck smelling fresh and my allergies at bay. I order a case once a year from my buddy Derek Jackson in Lakewood, CO. at Stevinson Toyota. He is great, always has the stock of parts I want, occasionally throws in some freebies and is 100% accurate and on the ball. Where did you dig this up? Went into the stealership this AM for an oil change and my service advisor was trying to tell me to replace it @ 16,000km. From what I can see on Toyota.com, it's replace as required for the cabin filter, and 15/30k miles for the engine air filter.

US owner's scheduled maintenance guide calls for cleaning at 15k miles, then 15k miles later it is to be replaced when it hits the 30k mile mark.
 
The stupid thing is that many dealerships will try to charge $20 labour for replacing this filter. They tried to do that when I had it replaced on my FJ and I complained that was completely unreasonable. After a short argument they refunded my $20.

must be some sort of super filter they use up here to clean out all the poutine and polar bear hair from our air. the Canadian owner's manual shows a replacement interval of every 16,000km (9,941 miles) or 12 months

the poutine is well worth the filter changes. :D

Philsey, buddy... you don't know what you're missing. "additional ingredients": think duck confit or lobster.

now if only maintaining one's arteries could be as simple as a $20 filter change! :canada: :hungry:
 
OK I am trying to find a Bosch P3502 cabin filter and I am at work right now and can't seem to find any in stock. If there is anyone out there that can spare a second or two and find me one I'd appreciate it.
