magnaflow 18" with turndown?

or cut exhaust/resonator delete and re-route to side with new tip?

hesitant to turndown after reading some threads with unhappiness in sound on hwy.

what are your thoughts? pics and sound clips welcome!

warlock bypass mufflers, I usually just run straights (caps off) but I'll put the caps on if I have to do any highway/interstate driving. needless to say my truck is LOUD

If you want quite just stay with the stock muffler and run a custom tip. However if you are adamant on a aftermarket muffler you can run a muffler and a resonator setup, get a 24in muffler or like my friend run a 36in one or two mufflers. However these are common setups on cars and trucks that have no cats. Honestly however personal preferences differ to much to give a solid setup. Your best bet is to look up sound clips on youtube and try and find one to your liking.

Fortunately I've gotten to hear what the 2UZ sounds like with an exhaust.
My brother has a Tundra with a custom Flowmaster catback dual exhaust. It's sounds awesome.... for about a minute.

After a few hours of driving 70 on a highway, the drone gets brutal.

Thanks to that truck, I've made my decision. It'll be res delete, side tip for this guy. I love how quite my 4runner rides.

oh the drone is horrendous, but like I said, if I have more drivin to do than my daily commute then I close my caps and the drone is gone

I'm happy with my Gibson. It's a bit quieter than I'd like for normal driving, but no drone on the highway. It has only been on for about 400 miles so it will prob get a bit louder. Plus, $291 shipped to my door is hard to beat. Fit was perfect..

I've had both the 24" and 22" Magnaflow on my 4runner and the 24 is the best IMO. 5x8x24 is the size you want, get the rez deleted and route it out the side. currently I have the 22 incher which is actually bigger than the 24 and its a touch quiter. You get a slight tone on around town driving and it'll come alive when you get on it hard. I'm seriously considering getting another 24" and be done with it. This is especially the case since my neighbor's Tacoma has one and it sounds effing rad every time I hear it (4 times a day). One word of advice, buy from eBay...you can pick these mufflers up for around $80 versus paying almost double from a muff shop.

Everyone's definition of a great sounding exhaust is different, but my ears and definition is the best so go get the 5x8x24 and thank me later.

what type of Flowmaster? was it a 40 series or a quieter 50 series. I have read on this forum that guys running a 50 series SUV with the 2UZ have no drone on the highway (50 series SUV was designed to reduce droning).

I'm not sure what type. He had it done like over ten years ago, but whatever it was, it definitely wasn't designed to be quite. So probably the 40 series.

Next time I'm around the truck I'll try to see if I can identify what it is.

I had a 50 Series SUV on my DC Tacoma about a year ago and had to take it off, way too much droan. The DC is more cabin then bed so the muffler was resonating the interior way too much. I'd image with a 4runner being all cabin you'd have the same problem. I've also had the 50 SUV on my old Tacoma Access cab and it was perfect...a lot less cabin & more bed.
