Expert Advise on 17" Tacoma Wheels

I purchased 17" Tacoma rims to be used for winter tires 265/70R17. It is 7.5 inch wide and 30mm offset.



Following the formula below (TO CONVERT OFFSET TO BACKSPACING):

For positive offset wheels: (Wheel Width +1)/2 + (offset * .03937)

SR5 OEM 17" rim offset = 4.59 inch

TACOMA 17" rim offset = 5.43 inch

This is almost an inch offset difference. Should I be concerned (i.e. need wheel spacer) ?

The offset on the Tacoma wheel brings the tire in closer to the upper A-Arm and may rub.

You would probably need to get 1 1/4" wheel adapter to make the offset 4.18"

I mounted the Tacoma rim and measured the clearance, approximately 1 inch. With the tire mounted, looks like there will be an issue.



Thinking of two options, 1.25" Spidertrax Wheel Spacer or sell these wheels

FYI I purchased a set of 4 FJ Steel Rims off eBay for $250. They were 17" and 7.5 wide, but Discount Tire mounted them without any issues.

FYI I purchased a set of 4 FJ Steel Rims off eBay for $250. They were 17" and 7.5 wide, but Discount Tire mounted them without any issues.

FJ steelies have the same offset as stock. The Tacoma wheels do not.

One of the dealerships told me that FJ Steel rim backspacing is approximately 4-15/16" inches which means more clearance. I may consider this cheaper option, CAD$90/rim.

Sold the rims less than 24 hours after posting in kijiji.

Now looking for used FJ Cruiser alloy wheels or perhaps new FJ steel rims :shrug:
