Final Count Down!
Well, I'm just stoked that I've pretty much completed my checklist for Trail fest. Just have a few more tiny details to do and plenty of time to do them. My deadline I set was April 15th. Well Check out the checklist, I'm ready for trail fest and Saturday the 15th is my maiden voyage at one of the local offroad parks. A test-n-tune session for the day to work out all the bugs I'm sure I will find. I'll upload the video I will take Saturday of the test session as soon as it's ready!
My checklist with only one remaining detail. This is just for Trailfest because this rig is not done after that. Still, a long way to go IMO.
New winch installed.
Installing the synthetic winch line under tension (as per the instructions).
Quick test up against the side of my house. Well, the retaining wall portion at least.

Cage all painted!
Wired up the headlights and turn signals (which are LEDs in the headlight housings)
Got some clear vinyl hose for the gas tank vent to keep water out of the tank and act as a catch should (or when) I end up on my lid. Clear will let me see if there is any fuel in the line.
That valve is self-closing when the tank is flipped upside down, but just in case some fuel seeps past it will get trapped in the line.
At the bottom of the tank where the line terminates, there is a fuel filter off a Dodge Dakota V6, which has the inlet and outlets on the same side. This will allow it to breathe, but trap any fuel that makes it that far up the line. Always good to respect the trails "Tread Lightly" and wheel out what you bring in especially fuel!

Not bad for a rattle-can paint job. Yup, I said spray paint!
Hood looks like crap, but because it was awkward to shoot on the vehicle and i didn't want to line it back up. Still need to finish body work anyway, so just one color coat will do for trail fest.

Yeah, that and the fact that there is still holes from cutting and some residual plastidip leftover I didn't sand off. The rest of the paint came out AWESOME! Nice a shiney and smooth. Check out this shot of one of the roof panels.
And thats with just scuffing the old clear coat and wiping it off, then shooting the paint half in a dirty shop and half outside.

That looks good! It's pretty close to the color I painted my jeep except I didn't use a glossy clear, mines flat.

Yeah, heading to the offroad park Saturday morning for some mild testing and tuning. Going to take tons of pics and video.
It's funny you should say that because my neighbors all pick on my other neighbor because his lawn looks so nice. So the others want me to drive through it and turn it up.

So far I have just called it the Chimera Crawler. Because it's like the mythical fire-breathing creature with the head of a lion, snake, and goat. It's made from different parts of three different makes of vehicle. Toyota, Ford, and GM. Haven't named it anything affectionate like Sara or Fluffy yet.

This is truly fantastic. I mean you've literally built a new truck. How do you suppose the little 3.4 will handle those tires? What about weight - do you think you've made the truck significantly heavier?
