Factory airbox repops for 3.4l opinions

Does anybody have any experience with the reproduction factory air boxes that are available for the 3.4? How is the quality and materials?
I usually go OEM but stuff is getting old and people are proud of them. I currently have a cold air intake on my supercharged 1997 but the heat in Arizona is brutal and I believe factory design is better.

I mean seeing as it's just a box made of ABS.... I can't really imagine why it would be a poor choice. You would be right in that it's better, you're drawing cool ambient air from the fender instead of recycling warm air from inside the engine bay. Best move is removing the intake elbow, which constricts the intake, but keeping the box
That said if youre struggling to maintain good temps then an airbox isn't gonna help much. Should look into a better rad and trans cooler instead

Very interested in opinions on this. I have the stupid deck plate mod except it's just two holes with no deck plates (PO did it). Tired of this mod (I think it's part of why I'm getting pinging now that it's getting hot out) not to mention I slightly broke the bracket on it that the first iteration of the MAF connects to so it's not connecting flush.

Where are you even finding these repros? Vast majority that pop up for me are for the 4 banger. The only one I've come across so far is a Dorman that costs nearly 600 bucks :jaw:

Most cold air intakes pull air from the engine bay rather than from outside of it. I just went through this exercise with my oversized intake that the stock airbox doesn't fit on anymore. The heat it brings in without the stock airbox is considerable.

Junkyards will be your best bet for a used box. I picked one up a few years back for $50 but I'm sure you could do better than that. A little soap and water and it'll look good again. The tricky part is the intake tube, they tend to get old and crack. It may take a little bit of searching or buy an aftermarket part instead.

The deckplate mod is worth the effort for a supercharged engine. In the hot summer months you can seal it up and once it cools off keep it open. It does add a significant amount of power, around 9 HP, for very little cost. Removing the intake elbow that goes into the fender also gives the same benefit as the elbow bend is very narrow.
