Factory Antenae

Yesterday, my friend leaned across the passenger door frame, fired a shot from his 7mm mag and hit the factory antennae, about half way up. Hard to believe he hit it since the antenae has such a small diameter, but he did. You would not believe how much it whipped back and forth after being hit by a bullet going about 3100 fps. Any way, it now has a kink in it and some extra copper on the side. The small ball at the end flew off to points unknown.
I notice that a lot of folks replace theirs with a stubby one. I am concerned about the reception as I often travel away from strong radio stations.
Should I try a short one and hope he misses next time?
Does anyone who has done the mod with the stubby one want to sell their old factory antennae?
Thanks,

2101 Limited, kinked antennae

I would have taken it off if I had time. A bit too close to the muzzle for comfort.
It unscrews pretty easily now. Not sticking at all.

Hey Chum, can't comment on the antenna thing but I do like your friends aim.

We were shooting up in the U.P. and forgot how far empty casing fly out of a 9mm. Left a few good scuffs on the hood of my '06 4Runner.....kind of like North Woods Pin Striping.
Anywho, here's a pic of all that's left of watermelon and cantaloupe being hit by a 9mm HP, 44 mag, a 40 and a 12ga. with slugs....might even be a 38 mixed in there somewhere.
