Those of you, that have gone to electric fans, what are you using for fan controls and where are you tapped to sense the water temperature? I am looking for input as to what would work the best to get the fans to come on and if there may be a tap in the block or intake manifold. The probe in teh radiator is not what I would like to use.

Do a google search for Volvo fan controls or Volvo fan relay.

I have no idea where you tap for water temp on a 4Runner as I don't see a need for an electric fan in mine.

The reson that I want to get rid of the manual fan, is purely aligned with parasitic drag. The factory fans on many vehicles limit the HP avaialble to be used elsewhere and also impacts fuel mileage. I gained a noticeable change on my 1991 Daily Driver GM truck by going to electric fans.

Of course, there would also be the warm up time in the middle of a cold A-- winter and the fact that the fans not running will assist in that arena.

If your fan clutch is working correctly you shouldn't notice hardly any difference.

Even if you do, consider the change in mileage (probably not noticable) payback vs. how much the parts cost to swap.
