Few Questions...

MAF = Mass Air Flow. The MAF sensor measures the amount of air passing thru the intake and provides a signal for the engine to adjust specific operating parameters (idk what for sure, but I'd guess A/F ratio...). With some cars, you need to retune when increasing air flow as some computers cannot adequately compensate. I've never heard of having to retune our 4Runners for a CAI so it all must be within the MAF sensors parameters.
I can't help with the suspension question, especially since I don't know what an adaptive suspension would look like. I've had 2nd gen and 3rd gen 4Runners but this is my first 4th gen and I never heard that term. Hopefully someone will educate us both.
Let me know what you think of the TRD CAI. I've been on the fence about getting one since all my mod $$ goes into the Stang. But since the Stang is put away for the winter, the 4Runner is getting my attention.

I really like the TRD CAI... At first, the sound wasn't so noticeable, but after a week, it sounds really nice. Local Toyota service guy told me that I will notice more in regards to sound, torque, hp, after about 5,000 miles. I guess the engine has to get used to the changes in the air intake. Also, I notice increase in power...
Check eBay for one of these. There is a company that sells it for $280 (free shipping); lot cheaper than other stores who charge $340 plus shipping.

The MAF is a very important, expensive to replace, integral part to your intake system, for all the reasons described above, and thus directly equals the value of performance you get out of your SUV. (Congrats by the way!)
I clean mine at every 7,000 miles oil change along with my AFE air filter & throttle body. The can of cleaner is about $8 give or so a few coins. After mine had gotten so dusty from off roading, I saw a huge improvement after cleaning the MAF & TB. It all adds up so I stay on top of it now. I'm getting 18.6 mpg average these days. Depending on how well I consistently behave with the accelerator!
