This week was a little rough... lol!
On my way to work, at around 5:45am, I lost control of Mean Green in a soft patch of snow on the road, and hit a snowbank! lol!
Here is my hole!
I ended up stranded there, with no Cellphone reception, and no traffic. After trying to dig myself out with my snow brush for 45mins, I gave up, and decided to wait til my coworkers figured out I wasn't coming.... and most likely in the ditch. After sitting there for 1hr and 30mins, I saw a single headlight in my rear view mirror, shining in the distance... the headlight, turned into a headlight and a blue strobe light, which ended up being a snow plow!
Once the plow truck came to a stop, I was surprised to find my buddy at the wheel, and he helped me out of the ditch!
Looks like I have a few things to add to my truck.... shovel, extra weight in the back for traction, some emergency blankets, a pair of boots, some long underwear, a lighter, and my axe.
Also, 2 days ago, while removing snow from our power operated switch motors, we got a call from a supervisor, advising that a train had burned a huge length of rail, and a repair had to be made. For those who don't know, a burned rail, is when the steel wheels from a train, spin and grind down the head of the rail. In this case, a train which usually pulls approximately 30 cars, was trying to pull 96 of them, and couldn't get rolling.... the result... 8 hours of overtime, and a very cold, hungry crew of men, trying to fix it, so that trains could run again!
In the process.... I was pulling a roll of hydraulic hose along the track line backwards, tripped on a grinder, and fell on a hydraulic spike puller (looks like a jackhammer). I didn't hurt myself too seriously, but bruised my butt cheek pretty bad... lol!
It got cold as hell this week in Oba.... after a short time shoveling out switches one day.... I looked like this...
