Final Chance to buy the 5th Gen 4R

Dealer told me Toyota Japan has been busy with order on the final run of the 5th gen before production begin on the 6h gen. Dealer said people are buying the hell out of the 5th gen in all trim levels anticipating much higher prices and unproven
reliability. Dealer told me that most are already pre sold before they come in.
They are giving discounts on the 5th.

At this point in time between the 5th gen being outdated yet pretty expensive, and the 6th gen being overpriced and possibly not as reliable while still underpowered there are better options.

for an SUV I would look at a Bronco raptor or sasquatch; if open to a truck, ranger raptor or ZR2 bison. If willing to go bigger, f150 raptor or ram trx for a little more.

If I didn't have my 5th gen already and was currently shopping the market I would count toyota out of my list.

I doubt it will be double or triple the cost when these are the current Tacoma prices(with delivery fees; per other 4r forum and confirmed on toyotas site):

The 4runner was a good value for what it is when it was in the 40k's a few years ago.

The new trd pro will probably be around 70k if the new tacoma is close to that. The Bronco Raptor may be a bit of a stretch but the sasquatch or a ranger raptor or zr2 bison is well within the same price range of the new 4runner/tacoma.

Bang for the buck it's also a better value.

As for the Sequoia, it is just expensive for what you get. Again just not a good value.

Don't get me wrong I love my 4runner and it is good for what it is, and it was a great value when I bought it for <40k brand new in 2018. I plan to keep mine but I think at this point there are better options at a close price point.

I got my 2024 SR5 Premium last Thursday. I think the new one is going to be very cool, but I wanted the proven reliability. Nice looking rig in my opinion also.

I don't disagree with you there which is why I'm keeping my 5th gen forever. It's reliable and does everything I need it to do. At the time I got it there was not much competition and it had a good balance of feature and reliability, but if I was shopping now, it is hard to ignore current competition having way more power, and features like factory front and rear lockers, 35+ tires and sway bar disconnects from the factory.

As for the future model, I am not sure if reliability will be a selling point anymore. We will have to see how it is long term; but if it's like the current tundra probably not as solid as the 5th gen.

The 2024 TRD ORP W/KDSS I just bought is my fourth 4R, I have owned other brands of vehicles and nothing has the longevity and resale value of a 4R and a Tacoma, I just traded a 2020 TRD ORP W/KDSS and really didn't lose any money on this vehicle, as a matter of fact I paid $7K difference for a four year newer 4R
that the price has gone up over $10K on in the past four years.
I like my new 2024, seems like it's built better than my 2020, I also like the extra Cameras, heated steering wheel and Blind Spot Monitor, recalibrated radar cruise control and auto High beam work much better on this one.
One thing I am really happy about is the front left diff needle bearing noise that goes away when 4WD is engaged is totally non existent on this 2024.
I also noticed a bunch of other things about the 2024 that are better, brakes are better, seats seem more comfortable and power seats are smoother and not clunky like the 2020 seats. Stereo sounds better, doors close tighter, rear hatch opens and closes easier. LED Headlights and fog lights on the 2024 are leaps and bounds better. So when the 2025's come out I'll wait a couple of years and see how people like them and maybe trade again, if not, I'll just hang onto this one.

I spent around three months looking at should I purchase a new 2024, or wait for the new 2025 model. I did go with the 2024 TRD Off Road model mainly because of the proven reliability of the vehicle, I didn't look at the price as the deciding factor in my decision. One thing that I think that will enter into new buyers' decision on what to buy is the new Land Cruiser will inter into the buying decision. Yes, the new Land Cruiser will cost more, but many may opt to pay more, just to step-up to the Land Cruiser, I would look at both and make my decision from there. I have a feeling this could affect the new 4 Runner sales as they have given the buyer another choice to choose from.

Other than TSS features, heated steering wheel, headlights and newer headunit everything else is the same so you are have having major placebo effects. The needle bearing is still a hit or miss issue as well and may or may not be a problem later. Things just may feel smoother/better because it is a brand new vehicle but its still the same parts off the same production line.

Pick up my 24 OPR tomorrow. Lease is ending on my 21 OPR and don't like the looks or the 4-cyl turbo of the 25 Runner so I'm gonna stick with the 5th gen. Toyota dropped the ball on the 6th gen...IMO. Who knows...it may grow on me over time. One thing that is concerning to me is the new price point of the 6th gen models. My dealer thinks easily 8-10% price increase like they did on the Tacoma. Might be a 5th gen owner for life :noidea:

The dealer is farming your fomo and will at the same time farm the hype for the new model. Its capitalism.

Why would they discount them unless they need to in order to sell? Think about that one.

As for this fomo inducing thread, There have been over 1.4 million 5G 4runners sold over 14 years in the US. They aren't going to up and disappear Fall 2024 when the 6G hits. :zoom:
