First scratch :(

EEK. Well, it was bound to happen. Somebody dinged and scratched my drivers door, about 2 inches below the handle.

A) WHY don't the new 2010's have side moulding guards?
B) Has anyone tried any of the "scratch removers" on the market? Any recommendations?
C) Any links to Aftermarket side guards?

With scratch remover, IMO its slowly damaging your clear coats. How about "touch up pen" + clear then buff..

This is why I always park in the 'No Door Dent' zone. I also don't park beside any car with a carseat or something that looks like Grandma or Grandpa is driving it.:nono:

i always check my car for scratches before i get in it at malls, stores, parking lots etc. No scratches on the 4runner yet but i know its bound to happen. May God help the person, if i ever catch them in the action of hitting my car. Years of scratch and ding anger will be released. And i always park far away or at the end of a line when i can.. but when i come out, there's always some jackass parked right next to me :gun4:

I do the same thing. However back in '04 when my silverado was new I parked it at the mall far away from anybody. It was a windy day. When I came out I noticed a shopping cart from a store 2miles away had made its mark on the front fender.

A) The new "slab" look with no mouldings, etc is the "in" thing. It looks cleaner, but it leaves the sheet metal a lot more vulnerable.

B) I've used Scratch-X, but it's designed more so for clear coat scratches, i.e. door handle cup area, etc. If it's scratched the base coat or down to the primer, touch paint followed by Langka would be your least expensive option. For the dent check with a PDR (paintless dent removal) guy, it's a lot better than having a bodyshop fill and repaint the damage.

C) Toyota might come out with some. IIRC the current gen (2007+) Camry has them as accessories.

That sux. I park my rig waaay out there where nobody would like to park. I don't mind the long walk but at least my rig will have less chances of getting dinged.

Try Race Glaze leveling compound. It's Great Stuff! and does not leave swirl marks.

Congrats on you r scratch! Dings and scratches are a badge of honor and character building. I never met an over the top anal person who was happy or emotionally healthy.

That's a good question. It's easy to run through scenarios of bravado in my mind, but I think if I was in the situation, it would come down to assessing the damage and treating it like any other type of auto collision.

I'd ask for their insurance information and take photos to document the damage and -- probably most important -- their car and the occupants.

One has to wonder what happens if the other driver refuses to exchange info and drives away. Is that leaving the scene of an accident? I don't think the police would be too amused at having to come out an write up a report for a door ding (even if it can cost $$ to properly repair).

The only time I caught someone hitting my car with their door was with my first car, a Civic. A lady pulled up in her Buick, swung her door open, and hit my passenger-side fender. She started to profusely apologize as soon as she saw me jump out of the car to inspect the damage. Fortunately, the Civic had rubber wheel well moldings that absorbed the impact.

I like what Saturn did by using fiberglass doors - wish all manufacturers would do this. I know it could still be scratched, but a scratch can be easily hidden while a dent cannot.

I believe my 94 Camaro had fiberglass doors as well - loved that car.

My friend got a nice F___you from the person who dinged him. So he watched as she kept on going into the grocery store. And then he flipped open his knife and cut out all 4 of her VALVE STEMS. And then he left.

I hope this story IS true. It's one thing to ding a car, apologize, share insurance info, etc. but it's entirely another thing when some flips you off after dinging you.

Oh, trust me, it's true. This is one guy you don't do that to. I still laugh about it. SHE picked the wrong dude. Would have loved to see the tears flowing when you find you can't just refill 4 tires with no valves.

First, get a snap shot from my cell phone. Jot down license plate number. They can run but they cannot hide. Then i'd ask for their info and call the police for them to do a police report. Now if he/she/they cooperate and don't want police involved and their insurance go up, i'd have them gimme $500 which is my deductible and i'll take care of the rest.

If the scratch is deep enough to catch your finger nail if you drag it across then no scratch remover is going to help. If not try NU Finish scratch remover.
