Flowmaster Question

I just had a Magnaflow #12256 (5"x8", 18" overall length) welded in with a new tail pipe dumped right after the axle. I had to chop the stock resonator and tail pipe off due to the new rear bumper I got.

Sounds great so far, not too loud but you get a nice, subtle rumble at idle. Quiet with the windows up on the freeway. I can definately hear the V8 when you get on it. I'll get a sound clip this evening. I'll be getting a Volant intake next.

How big of a muffler are you going to go with? after I get my APR installed I was thinking of going with a 2.5in or 3in magnaflow. Not sure about cost but if it costs less than 300 bucks I'm going for it. I'll have plenty of time to think of a exit style for the tips while I wait:redbrick:

I have the flowmaster super 44, I like it....no drone at all.
Sounds good when you stomp on the gas, sounds best between about 1100 and 2000 rpm.
So you can really hear it when your mostly city/trail driving.
And its not annoying at all when your on the freeway.

do you have a sound clip? and do you have pipes to the rear or did you dump it after the muffler?

flowmaster 40 series would be for the loud and cheap route for sure, Loud and overtime annoying if cut out underneath the truck because of the drone

ah okay well how annoying? haha and do you have a sound clip of yours yet autbond? also what is your muffler's part number?

Got a Magnaflow!!!

Well I did it, got the Magnaflow installed just a little bit ago. My initial review is that I love it. You can't hear it at idle, but you can hear it on start up. It has plenty of sound when you get on the gas, hopefully not too much for the wife! I'm not sure about droneing yet but I'll hop on the interstate after a while and post again. So far so good. Total cost taxes and all $197. He reinstalled my exhaust tip and routed the pipe to the right rear as others have done. For the low cost, I'm happy w/ my decisioin. Oh, and I kept my factory exhaust just in case!

alright just ordered the borla turbo muffler part #40652 the guinea pig will keep you guys posted ;):

That's the 2-1/4" muffler, isn't our exhaust 2-1/2"? I measured mine with a caliper behind & in front of the muffler & it's 2.5 or is it measured by I.D.?

Im not 100% sure i tried to measure it and it seemed like 2.5 but the flowmaster i have right now measures 2.25 reason why i went with the same size. If in any case you wanted to go with 2.5 pipe its part #40653 instead of #40652 which is what i got.. i'll find out soon enough

update

After driving for a day now, I can saw the Magnaflow sounds great, however it is alot louder than I expected. I don't mind and it's fun, but it'll take some getting used to. At 50 mph there's not much droning, but on 60-80 2000 rpm to 2500 there's quite a bit of droning. Enough that it's considerably louder in the cabin. Mine is not dumped and was routed to the right rear. I'll live with it for a while. IF I get a MPG increase I'll leave it. If there's not difference I'll be taking it off before too long.
I'll get some sound clips but they really don't do it justice.
Keep in mind this is my first V8 w/ any type of muffler or pipes, so maybe it's not that loud compared to others, but compared to stock it certianly is.

Alright guys time to update this thread.. so i finally had the chance to get the borla turbo muffler installed last sa****ay and sound wise its pretty much the same with my flowmaster maybe a tad louder due to the borla's smaller casing, i like the sound though better than my flowmaster, its a bit more refined and i feel like it flows better.. i could try putting up a video of how it sounds but it wont do it any justice cause i have a sucky camera..

so there you go a short review from the guinea pig:thumb3:

How's the drone at 2k rpm's? My magnaflow was MUCH louder the I expected. Enough that I took it off. I've been curious about the Borla, let us know!

haha.. well you can definitely hear the borla, this is with my resonator on still.. during acceleration with AC on windows up you can definitely hear it when you've got a heavy foot but normal driving/acceleration its not too loud/bad. this muffler has a small casing so prolly the cause of it to be a tad louder than my flowmaster but its more refined in sound not much of the rumble like the flowmaster had

Here you guys a short clip.. drum roll

Are there still people wanting to hear the 40 series (I can't remember if it was 44 or what...all I remember is 40 something) Flowmaster with no resonator? I have a fantastic video camera and am willing to go make a short clip. Inside and out. Like the others have said, when I crank it, she roars to life but then settles down to a tolerant level. No excessive drone up to 2,000 rpm, but above that it sounds perfect and OMG if I floor it she roars louder than my Mom's SS/T Ram! Gives me goosebumps and and I start grinning like an idiot.

I'm fairly certain this is what I got, and in the video when he revs it, that's exactly what she sounds like. So Super 40 Series it is.
