Funny that, since I'm only 20, it sounds just like they're talking about a movie, or a fake fantasy world.

Sure sounds fun... now, there's just too much crap to ruin a good ol' time. I can never have fun with a pellet gun or something because some busy body would use his cellphone call the cops, and they'd probably have it on camera.

I can never buy gas for absurdly cheap, or think $.40 cents was outrageous for a gallon.

I can never enjoy (besides that throwback stuff) a real soda pop, in a bottle, one with sugar instead of "high fructose corn syrup" because those companies went the cheap route since then.

I can't even drive down "the avenue" without running into absurd amounts of traffic, filled with economic pieces of junk hybrids with traction control and navigation systems. Hell, a smog check didn't exist.

Someone invent that time machine already, I want to experience this. People had real names, not Sky, or Dallin... they were all named Johnny, Timmy, and Sally! Fun was going out and playin' ball, or riding your bike across the country, instead of video games. Kids are fat and corrupted nowadays. You'd better be home before dark, because there were no phones to call you on, otherwise, your dad would give you 3 licks with his belt.

I want my freakin' malt and my pop, dammit. Oh, and an In N' Out cheeseburger for twenty five or forty cents!

Ha! Great. I'm only 51 and did just about all those things (and still do some of them!).

If you want a taste of the 'slow life' do a long cruise down old Rt. 66 in Oklahoma. My wife and have done this a couple of times. There are dozens of old motels and broken down gas stations, movie theaters, and mom and pop diners - a lot still in business. Go to Tucumcari, NM and stay at the Blue Swallow Motel - opened in '39. When you drive 66, you realize how much something as mundane as the interstate system changed American life. Now we travel for the destination; before the travel was the destination, and adventure. Who, today, just takes off and figures you'll find a room somewhere along the way? Or just take off and figure you'll get there when you get there, stopping at little tourist traps along the way. Try it some time! It's exciting (kind of like off-roading). But it just isn't the same doing it in a Toyota :) (though I have).
