Formidable 2002 Sport Edition Thundercloud Metallic Build Thread

Last week I sent off an OEM head to exhaust manifold stud and a genuine TRD header stud. ARP responded with part numbers. These were purchased from summit racing.

The ARP stainless TRD header stud replacements and 12 point fasteners arrived today. Replaces the two studs for the sensor and the two studs that hold the runner. The head to exhaust manifold studs arrived as well but the broaches are a few mm longer than the OEM ones. Won't know fitment on those until I attempt installation.

These TRD stud replacements fit perfectly. Much stronger and nicer than the zinc coated mild steel ones that come with the headers. The zinc plated TRD studs were probably never meant for headers given how they corrode in no time.

The ARP stainless studs are expensive but they were designed to hold the head to the exhaust manifold. They are meant to withstand the heat as well as 18000 psi tensile strength - stronger than grade 8 steel. As an added bonus... they are gorgeous.

Part number in the pic below. The 304 stainless ceramic coated TRD headers along with the ARP studs will outlast the life of the vehicle.

I'm not sure if you are aware.... but you can get some polish for the Sport Edition Skid... and clean it up to match your new one!

I use "Autosol"... it looks like a black / gold colored toothpaste tube. I zap my stuff with it and a Mother's Powerball every so often... works great! :)

BTW.... your truck looks great man!

Thx for the kind words and the tip! I appreciate it!

Swapped clear corners in today. Also swapped the stock halogens for 921 Phillips LED bulbs. These are the same bulbs I have for my reverse lights. I compared these with 194 LED's. The 921's are much bigger, (just made it into the housing), and brighter. Tested them on the road to make sure they are not blinding. They pass. The chrome finish and beveled shape of the bulb are also a nice touch.

How much brighter are the reverse bulbs than stock?

Also, what are you using for amber turn signals?

The Phillips 921 LED's are very bright. Work for reverse or front corners. Diffuse light output.

I haven't changed my stock turn signal bulbs in the front bumper or the tail lights. The HID retrofits I have from SRQ Fabrications have LED white/amber switchbacks that blink with the turn signal.

Did you end up using the ARP head to manifold studs to install? Did they work, and if so, what was that part #? Headers look awesome!
