Fox suspension?

Beautiful truck! I'm SO tempted by Fox, but I keep hearing about occassional quality control problems, poor customer service, and perhaps a lack of commitment to the truck world (mostly bikes). I don't hear a LOT of that, but as I've been looking for more about Fox, those keep cropping up and it makes me nervous.

OTOH, the rest of what I'm hearing is raving happiness.

What (and how much) kind of off roading do you do?

To be completely honest, we haven't done any crazy trails yet, just the basic stuff. We use it mostly to get us to the campsites and hiking trails. I say we because my wife actually daily drives the 4runner - I have a Tacoma. We decided to finish the 4runner build with full armor before anything major.

This being said, I run the Fox series coils w/ remote res on my Tacoma (see image) and I'm super happy.

We've only had both trucks since July of this year, but we started building them the day we purchased! Sharing funds between two trucks is annoying, however, two is one and one is none :zoom:

Still love my set up. I mostly use it for sand and beach. Nothing too crazy.

You guys that have the fox installed, did you use the sway bar drop kit? If yes, did your skid plate bolted up normally?? Do I need longer bolts for my trd skid?

About to pull the trigger on Fox 2.5 (883-02-130) fronts & would like to know if the sway bar relocation affects the TRD Pro skid setup at all?

Hey buddy, where in OC are you? You are welcome to take measurements and compare to your truck. I dont have TRD but it did change the geometry of everything including the RCI front skit plate. I basically had to remove one of the bolts (oil change spot) and use zip ties.

Thanks for the info! I'm in Huntington Beach/Costa Mesa. I see that you have the 2" Icon springs/Fox shock in your rear. I'm planning on keeping my Bilstein 5100 back there & adding Icon or OME 2" spring as well. I currently have the 1" Cornfed spacer back there to level it to the front 5100's...I'm guessing with the new Icon/OME rear spring I wont need to rock the Cornfed spacer anymore because of the stiffness of the new spring? Thanks!

Not "horrible" but dysfunctional
And not because of the brand.. its the function of 5100

On the road it's fine.. off road, you will have 100x nicer ride on the front. Where the rears (5100's) will be like driving a bike on gravel.

Its just different functions that you are blending on one platform.

Thanks! No, so far so good. I greased the UCAs with the recommended PTFE grease to combat squeaks.

Just get longer bolts and it will work, it moved down however so lost some clearance, measured about 13 inches from ground to skid running 295. I am rubbing the front sway bar when fully locked turning left though so not sure if alignment will help.

How many threads do you have exposed above the ring?
How much total lift?
What’s your hub to fender measurement?
What’s your rear lift?

I ask because I feel like I’m shorting myself. Here’s my current situation, literally just went outside to take a pic.

I didn't measure it but it's about 2 1/2" - 3" of lift. 2" of exposed thread on the coilover body. It's out of the box from Fox. I didn't crank it at all. Rear lift is 1.5".

I thought it was due to mine be RR but I’ve seen he same amount of adjustment on RRs too. I have the Toytec coils on the back but do have 1” CordFed spacers lying around.

I cranked mine until the UCA got in the way and I couldn't spin the adjustment ring anymore, maybe 2" of threads above the set ring. It worked out to a little over 2.5" in the front and a set of sway-a-way "1.5"s" that sit just under 2.0" in the rear.

Yours are fairly close to mine. I have the older model with double adjustment collars on top. I ran mine at the lowest possible height, meaning the top collar was literally at the very top nearly contacting the reservoir elbow and that was nearly stock height. So going down from that point 1.5" should be a 3" lift, unless you have extra weight up front. That would be something like 2-2.5" from the top of the threads to the bottom of the adjustment collar. If i set mine where your set is, I'd probably have about a 1.5" lift in front. Higher isn't necessarily better. Ride gets worse as you go up.

I think I'm about 2.5" of lift with this setting. The salt on our roads is horrendous on parts...

FOX 2.0 Questions

So I just picked up my 2018 SR5 and want to address the suspension. I'd like to do the following:

1.)Stop the nose dive under breaking
2.)Lift the truck 2"
3.)Be able to fit 275/70/17 ( Any make )
4.)Might add a small spacer in rear in the future to address the roof rack, car top tent and other weight
5.) Avoid the need for Upper Control Arms for proper alignment
6.) Be able to soak up washboard and desert roads while maintain an enjoyable ride on pavement (90% on road driving)

Here's wha I have found:
SuperFlex 2" Rear Coil Spring Pair for 2003+ 4Runner, 2007+ FJ Cruiser (RCC2.0)

Fox 2.0 Performance Series Remote Reservoir Rear Shock Set with CD Adjusters for 2003+ 4Runner, 2007+ FJ Cruiser (985-26-117 x2) or
For 2"-3" Rear Lift (FRS 985-26-118 X2)

Fox 2.0" Performance Series Front Coilover Set (983-02-051 x2)

I'd get the 2"-3" rear shocks in case I add the spacers. Would i need anything else like a diff drop kit or anything?
