Serviced my rear diff today, 11,652 miles. Plug had quite a bit of dust on it, no chunks or chips at all. Oil was pretty dark and had a silver swirl in the drain pan. Happy to have it out of there, surprised at how dirty it was after such a short time with zero towing or off road use at all. Front diff will be some time next week, didn't feel like dropping the front skid plate off it tonight.
I am curious, for the transfer case - is it just one case of the Toyota transfer case oil to change it ?

that write-up is for the 4G... for the 5G only the Limited (with torsen diff; F/T 4WD) gets 1.5 quarts in the t-case. SR5 and Trail (OR) factory spec is 1.1 quarts.

Ok. Thats what I initially thought. A friend of mine did the service and said it took a little more than one.
Now the question, is it enough to just put one can / liter, or I have to pay another $60 for that 0.1 quart? :fencing:
I’ve seen others post about using Ravenol 75w as an alternative
I just did the rear diff and transfer case fluid today. I mucked it up a bit though. I used the silver crush gaskets on the rear diff instead of the thinner gaskets. Since I had already used them when I got to the transfer case I decided to reuse the old ones. No leaks from either. Question though - am I doing anything terrible by not changing those gaskets on the rear diff? My thought is if it doesn’t leak then I’m good. But if they do something silly like fuse to the diff then I’d like to get under there and fix my mistake.
