Front Runner Rack Options

I have the extended version on order and should be picking up my TP next week. Anyone know if the tilt function on the sunroof will work with the wind deflector? ?

You can mount the wind deflector on any cross member so you can mount it one back if it will get in the way. Also I don't know how much it actually does to deflect wind. I'll post some measurements soon and I'll get the distance from back of windshield to the deflector.
 
I kinda thought about that, but doesnt the deflector need to be on the first slat??? As far as the deflector, I had a FR on my tacoma and it definitely does help.

I have run several different deflectors on my front runner rack and in the end went with their design since it seemed to be the quietest.

From the back of the wind shield to the front center of the wind deflector is 2' 4".

I actually didn't think the wind deflector would do much on my K9 because it is small and a weird design but it really did help a lot. With it installed I can barely hear any noise from the rack. From your pictures it looks like the FR deflector is the exact same thing.

Also I think the rack looks excellent! If you don't prefer a full-length rack or if you want to use your sunroof then this definitely looks like the way to go! I love the versatility of the in-channel bolts. You can pretty much figure out/fab up anything you want to fit in this things!
 
I am liking it a lot. It's very solid and the design is not over engineered. Easy to put together. I am going to hit Lowe's today to see if I can't put together my own ring attachments for it.
 
I loved the FR for my tacoma. Only had it for a short time before I sold the truck, but knew that whatever I ended up with, that a FR would be one of the first things installed..

Pricey, but the FR attachments are great. I have 3 wolf boxes and the 13 gal water container. I already ordered with the new rack, the surf board holder, the awning attachments and the hi-lift attachments.

For what it's worth, I heard FR will be doing a price increase soon.... anyone interested should order soone than later.

Let us know what you figure out. I figured it would be easy to find some eye nuts locally or at the very least, online, but it was far from easy. I ended up ordering the black M8 eye nuts from FrontRunner for my rack.
 
Another low profile alternative to the eye nuts I have found are stainless steel motorcycle tie downs. Not cheap but work well on top and bottom for securing loads. I also have them mounted through my floor with fender washers that I use to secure cargo. Here is a crappy cell pic of what they look like.
 
I'm pretty torn, I really like the look of the Gobi and how it is secured to the roof, but the functionality of the Front Runner is better than anything I've seen.

How are you folks with the FR racks getting stuff on/off? I like the light weight of the FR but the ladder of the Gobi. Easier than carrying a step stool to avoid problems pulling from overhead. I saw they have ladders for a couple other types but no 4runners.

I just stand on top of the rear tires or sliders I don't care if they are muddy I just carry extra shoes...

Didn't you mention you wanted to get rid of the Gobi to cut down on weight? Just curious if you knew the actual weight of yours? Looking between the two specs on their respective websites, there is only a pound difference. At this point I've thought about fabing one up at my buddy's garage, it would be a first but he's got the experience.

I have nfab nerf bars and those steps work perfect for getting up to the rack. Gobi rack can work with this rack. I saw someone on this form use the two together. I think the ladder just hits the rack when the hatch is all the way up. If I remember correctly he did something to fix it. Maybe search gobi ladder front runner.
 
Don't have any sliders on at the moment so didn't occur to me as an option and will investigate further should the purchase be made.

I also stand on my tire or rear bumper to access the rack. If I am doing a ton of loading though I have a telescoping aluminum ladder. Fully collapsed it is like 2.5' and fully extended it is like 8.5' so it's easy to pack and easy to use.

I admit though it is easier for me as i am 6'3" so I can load and unload certain items from the ground just reaching.
