Front Speakers - upgrade

I recently dropped in some Pioneer TS-A878s in my dash- they sound great are are also a large upgrade from stock... On drivers side I cut the factory speaker bracket (as others have done) so it can be "spread" apart to accommodate a larger speaker... For passenger side I had to make a longer mounting plate but it is simple. I used a basic 100uf capacitor for a 400hz 6dB/octave high pass filter. For wiring: you can very easily use a spade connector (as shown in link below) plugged right into the factory plugs. I bought a pack from Home Depot that came with two sizes...the smaller of the two fit into the plug connectors perfectly and these also bridge the parallel connection to the door speakers.

did you install them yourself? is it easy to take off the covers? is it plug n play? i just moved and all my tools are a few states away at my mothers for now. so im wondering if i need to solder and cut wires. thanks!

Yes, I installed myself. VERY easy with only a few tools needed..

You can use a small flat head screwdriver to remove the dash speaker cover, just tape up the tip so you don't scratch any plastic.

Then use a rachet (or cresent wrench) to remove the screws, unplug the wiring harness on each speaker.

Like others have said, there are many ways you can wire them up. I chose to use male/female quick connects just to make it cleaner, this required cutting the factory wires and resplicing with the quick connects. The only tool you will need for this is a crimper/cutter tool (you can get these for about $10 at any hardware store... or walmart).

Also buy some quick connects, there are many different options for splicing (soldering is the best option but its not required).

I have Hybrid Audio Technology Legatia 3" speakers in mine.
Took a little bit of work to fit them(adjusting brackets) but they sound awesome.

I would only recommend those if you plan on adding an amplifier as well. I don't think the stock HU would drive those speakers very well.
You can add an amp without replacing the stock head. Just need a processor or a line out converter.

I'm installing infinity reference 3.5's this weekend with bass blockers. I believe [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION] used these as well.

Installed the infinity reference today along with a Kicker Hideaway Sub, it's been said before but installing the dash speakers is a HUGE upgrade!!
