Front Window Tint

This is my 4Runner when I first got it. I tinted the front side windows at 20% and did the whole windshield at 35%. I've had them tinted for a year and half now. Never been pulled over and can see out perfectly fine at night. Keeps the interior nice and cool here in Florida.

I was gonna to Bonnie & Clyde for my audio install when I can afford it. I think they have a groupon available. was the front windshield price reasonable?

Reasonable...not really added about $170 to the total. Prices there for other things have usually seemed reasonable but it might be the type of place where they kind of see what they can get....Im not a haggler, I just think for a "service" they can name it and if I don't like it I can go down the road.

@4D7 awesome looking 4th gen!! I'm so jealous that you get to rock those 16" TRD rims. I have the oversized brakes and can't fit anything smaller than 17". Where can I see more pics of that rig?

Need to add more pictures to the garage though :/

Stoptech makes a BB package for these 16s, in fact that is who makes the TRD big brake kit. It is a TRD option on the FJ's. You probably don't want to buy another brake package though, they are damn expensive! haha

And THANKS!!

I had everything done to 5%, and the front windshield done to 35%

I wan my front window exactly like l3lake. that looks good! - however I think that might be an issue here in Dallas.

FWIW: This link is not accurate as far as Illinois is concerned. You can legally tint front driver and passenger windows 35% as of I believe 2009.

Well that's AAA for you, as long as you pay their fee they don't seem to care to do their research completely.

On the Illinios .gov website it sorta states the same, but has exceptions.

Illinois General Assembly - Illinois Compiled Statutes

"(a-5) No window treatment or tinting shall be applied to the windows immediately adjacent to each side of the driver, except:
(1) On vehicles where none of the windows to the rear of the driver's seat are treated in a manner that allows less than 30% light transmittance, a nonreflective tinted film that allows at least 50% light transmittance, with a 5% variance observed by any law enforcement official metering the light transmittance, may be used on the vehicle windows immediately adjacent to each side of the driver.
(2) On vehicles where none of the windows to the rear of the driver's seat are treated in a manner that allows less than 35% light transmittance, a nonreflective tinted film that allows at least 35% light transmittance, with a 5% variance observed by any law enforcement official metering the light transmittance, may be used on the vehicle windows immediately adjacent to each side of the driver.
(3) (Blank).
(4) On vehicles where a nonreflective smoked or tinted glass that was originally installed by the manufacturer on the windows to the rear of the driver's seat, a nonreflective tint that allows at least 50% light transmittance, with a 5% variance observed by a law enforcement official metering the light transmittance, may be used on the vehicle windows immediately adjacent to each side of the driver."

Still trying to get my post count up.

Maybe this link is useful. Click your State in left columns for details.

Tint Laws

The law is the law indeed - but honestly I feel like it's up to local PD themselves. Some PD might increase revenue and ticket drivers for frivolous reasons just because. Virginia Beach cops used to care about tint but the popularity of having windshield tint increased over the years so they just stopped ticketing people altogether. Although it is fair to assume you can be pulled over anytime by the police for whatever reason..including illegal tint.I was probably ticketed for illegal tint 3 times between '09-'10 but I have not been ticketed since then. Northern VA cops definitely do not care nor have time to pull people over for tint. They have bigger fishes to go after

Currently have 50% windshield, 5% front/back windows. I'm debating on replacing 50% with 35% or 40% for windshield.

That being said...do not pay for illegal tint just because I said it's totally okay to do so. Would you jump off a cliff if I told you to? No, you would not

LLumar FormulaOne 30 stratos blocks over 90% UV and has over 65% heat reduction on front which is 3% with nothing. Matches up okay with factory 28% rear. Putting same brand 50% over rearmost 3 windows and 70 over factory tomorrow which should make the front appear 20-25ish.
