20% Front Window Tint

The first full day I had my new 4Runner I went out and got the front windows tinted. I went with 20% so it was a perfect match to the back windows. The guy tried to get me to go with 15% because more light comes in through the windshield and when it is sunny, with 15% it would look more even. I would not recommend that because when it is not sunny, the front would look too dark and it wouldn't look even.

Also, with 20% at night it is almost too dark to be able to see out of the windows. Check out this picture of the runner the other day in the rain. 20% looks like an even match!

Pretty damn close indeed...factory tint is around 27% I believe.

I had 35% on my 08 and it matched the factory almost perfectly.

Got a Fix-it ticket for window tint.
Remove perfectly good window tint. Replaced with 3M crystalline.
Doesn't look as Cool but it will keep the HEAT off my ass ( hopefully)

I installed this in my wife's outback last year and it does reflect the heat and filters some sun.
The 5/21/2018 is the before Photo and the 7/18/2018 is the after Photo

Looking at these pictures I really do need a Lift and level.

I just googled a "fix-it ticket in CA" to see what it actually means. That's a damn shame for you all over there. I've probably accumulated 6-7 tickets over ~13 years and still have limo tint on front windows with 40% windshield.

I'm looking into a medical waiver for the tint though. I need to do research and find out what happens to individuals who have tint waiver with lower percentage(s) than required by law. If it's something that results in jail time then no thanks on applying for a waiver

Looks like some 5th gens got lost in the 4th gen section...I like that cement.

I have 32% on the fronts, amazing how much it helps with the heat.
Its close in color but slightly different shade than factory.

35% front, 50% all rear. I got both front and rears done to get them closely matched.

MAN, WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO DO THIS? Literally makes the biggest difference in the world to me getting my windows tinted, and I've had the truck for a year. Guess thats just what happens when I had to do repairs first.

35% on everything behind the driver, which equaled to about 10% over the factory
20% on the front two windows
50% on the windshield

I was a little nervous about doing the windshield, but got the idea from this thread. Wow, I think it makes all the difference, and I don't have any problems seeing at night like I thought I would..... I will say I think it takes some getting used too driving with darker tint. My old car had 30% all the way around and I thought that was dark back then, maybe on the next rig I'll go for 5%

Not allowed to tint the front windows here in NH...and many other states.

really? i am from MA (dumbest bluest state for overzealous laws and taxes, no offroading aside from a couple places in the whole state, luckily my house is 10 mins from one) and we can have front window tint im sure. i hike camp and snowboard NH and was wondering about me traveling there...with my MA plates and reg i should be fine aside from the initial stop at least.

The law is the law indeed - but honestly I feel like it's up to local PD themselves. Some PD might increase revenue and ticket drivers for frivolous reasons just because. Virginia Beach cops used to care about tint but the popularity of having windshield tint increased over the years so they just stopped ticketing people altogether. Although it is fair to assume you can be pulled over anytime by the police for whatever reason..including illegal tint.I was probably ticketed for illegal tint 3 times between '09-'10 but I have not been ticketed since then. Northern VA cops definitely do not care nor have time to pull people over for tint. They have bigger fishes to go after

Currently have 50% windshield, 5% front/back windows. I'm debating on replacing 50% with 35% or 40% for windshield.


That being said...do not pay for illegal tint just because I said it's totally okay to do so. Would you jump off a cliff if I told you to? No, you would not

pretty sure front tint is illegal here in Florida...that aside, I never saw the need for for it..If it's super hot which is most days in the summer, I'll just pop out my window shade..

Not sure what percentage it is, but personally I've found the factory tint that came on my '18 to be sufficient.

Keep in mind that if you get the actual front windshield tinted, it will mess with your vision when you wear polarized glasses. You'll see faint black lines down the windshield in full sun while driving.

2 4Runners

We own 2 4Runners and did different tint packages. All the windows match for the most part on each. On my wife’s 05 we did 20% up front and 35% on the factory. This all matches well and cuts down on heat and sun on the kids. I like mine rather dark and did 12% up front and 20% over the factory with an additional 5% visor on the front. I really like it. The only change I’d consider is 5% up front, 12% on back sides and 35% on the rear for a bit more darkness but viewability out f the far rear window. The 20% on the rear is doable, but can be hard at night without a aux backup light.

What kind of VB do you live in bud? Must be lucky. I got ticketed a couple of times on London Bridge Road & Atlantic Ave. at the Boardwalk during summertime. I decided to avoid the oceanfront altogether whenever it's tourist season...not that it's a concern for me anymore as I live in Fairfax now. I'd say I get pulled over more in VB versus Fairfax.

I think it's the matter of cops being able to see "number of bodies" inside the vehicle...if you have limo tint or 2 layers worth of 20% or darker resulting in limited view of bodies inside the vehicle, you're more likely to attract attention from the cops

I'm guessing by your post, you have like a 20% tint that matches the rear factory tint? VB cops definitely did not care about 20% when I had it at one point before adding limo to front and tint on the windshield when that attracted more attention than usual. I'd like to think they admire the trooper so much they want to pull me over and appreciate the look of it

24th street, Oceanfront actually lol But yeah I have like 40% I believe which is the max legally you can have.I Figured they just see it around enough they know Im not some tourist at this pointIts probably just my dumb luck around Nova, something always happens when I go see the old fraternity brothers.

The cops around London Bridge are definitely a little extra, I Use to live on great neck by Wave church and they always had people pulled there
