Fuel Tank Relocation (and new Rear Bumper design)

Tank is in! No leaks and everything works including the gauge. Can totally tell the difference in weight driving with a full tank. I was worried that the gauge wasn't working even though I pumped the 1/4 of a tank I had left from the stock tank. I guess my original sender wasn't reading correctly. It took 16 gallons on fill up. There is now a cavernous space for a air compressor and air tank! Whoot. On to pics. Filler neck is 2" used 2 90* hoses and 1 coupler. Cut the filler neck and vent tube when the bend starts on the neck where it goes under the body.

I’m going with 3/16 for the skid plate I’m gonna make. I got my truck driving around now. I’m considering getting the Oem pump grafted into the tank but maybe next winter. I just wanna drive my truck haha. Yours looks great!!! Tbh the autometer gauge doesn’t look awful

Thank you! Yes grafting the oem stuff was more difficult then I wanted it to be. But it was worth it. As it has the toyota reliability and fuel level works. Yep it's easier going with a autometer gauge I just didn't want an external gauge.

Yes 3/16th sounds like the happy medium.

Alrighty guys I forgot to ask, well with the addition of the rear bumper and fuel tank I'm sitting hard on the helper bumpers (the bumper thing inside the spring). I don't have the coin for a lift so I need suggestions for some rear springs. Right now I have the spare tire, 113 pound rear bumper and now a 19 gallon tank, so tons of weight added to the rear.

I was looking at the ome 890 or 891 springs since I'm guessing with a full tank, spare and the bumper I'm around 200-220 pounds in the rear with no extra gear. I just need to get by untill I can save some cash for a proper lift. Any suggestions, I scoureged the junk yard for LC coils but no dice.

Figure out a kit that can use the toyota stuff and sell it. I bet you'd make a good chunk of cash that way. Might be tough to figure out the custom bracketry and such but you'd have a lot of buyers lined up.

That bracket looks good. But I do have to say that is one complicated bend in the lever arm. Its actually pretty hard to bend that lever. But that is awesome!

Is the Toyota sender based off the new TSB part (# 83320–35590) or the original, just trying to clear this up for future people.

Edit - looking at [MENTION=177008]Team_Jake[/MENTION] pics and looking at both versions of senders, it looks like it is based off the new tsb 83320-35590 part #. New part # on top, old style on bottom.

Unfortunately with the way the arm presses onto the potentiometer, it will be too difficult to take the old arm off and install a new arm. The arm will need to be bent while it is still attached to the sending unit and the float will have to be re-positioned. I will be making a detailed set of instructions on the steps to do so (or for anyone that will be ordering a new sending unit anyways, I could modify a new sending unit ready-to-go included in the kit).

The sending unit is Toyota part number 83320-35590. I'm not exactly sure when Toyota changed to this particular sending unit (it appears it was sometime in 2000, but I'm not sure), so those of you with model years 1999 or 2000 may not be able to use their stock sending unit (unless you got yours replaced as part of TSB EL010–00). I want to say anyone with a model year 2001+ will be able to use their stock sending unit but I can't confirm that.

Just updating, everything is working fine with the exception of the filler neck hose's. They have gotten soft and have a faint smell of gas. I spoke with the place I bought them from (filler neck supply co) and they said it's nothing to worry about (Bull malarkey), so found some 90 degree metal 1 3/8" bends and some gates straight hose I'll make couplers out of. Why couldn't toyota use 2" filler hose like the rest of the world?

Gauge works great. I pulled apart my old tank and low and behold it had the old style fuel sender in there even though my vin # was in that TSB and the TSB was done on my truck.

So if you plan on running [MENTION=177008]Team_Jake[/MENTION] bracket, either buy the new sender or verify you have the new updated one pn 83320–35590.

Also a update - tank and everything is doing fine. Seems to fill up much better then the stock tank. I also get much more mileage per tank for some reason.

Picked up the metal today for the skid, going with 3/16" plate. Basically going to go a inch or two further then the "sump" in the ford tank (that dimple thing in the middle of the tank). I know rocks and junk probably wont go that far up, but if a car rear ends me it sure will make it quite far lol. Should be fun, that plate is quite heavy. Also I went with LC 80 kyb shocks and OME 891 springs and it rides like butter with all the weight in the back!
