Gauging interest in PELFREYBILT rear bumper/TC

I'll plunk down money for a bumper ASAP as long as it

a) looks good, matches body lines
b) Doesn't compromise my towing capabilities (I tow a 5k lb travel trailer)
c) Offers tire carrier
d) Is priced reasonably

I don't like the looks of anything out there thus far, and the towing compromises aren't well defined with the existing models.

The Pelfreybilt Tacoma bumper looks great, I'm very interested.

You're not going to find ANY offroad fab shop willing to put a weight limit or tow rating on their bumpers' with a receiver hitch. They aren't tested for that nor are they going to open themselves up to that kind of legal liability if something fails. That's the #1 reason towing capabilities aren't defined by any vendor.

Similar to how only ARB has the R&D $$$ to claim their bumpers are Air Bag Compliant, you think Pelfry or CBI has the kind of money to build bumpers and trucks and then smash them to test their product? You'd be shocked at how little profit fab shops make on their products after all is said and done.

For the sake of this thread being an interest gauge for Pelfry, what do you consider "reasonable price" for a steel bumper with tire carrier? I would like to see it at or less than $1500 for a basic bumper and carrier.

Completely agreed, I don't expect guarantees or testing, which is why I didn't state that as a requirement. However, I'd feel more comfortable if someone with competent fabrication or engineering skills evaluated the design for towing purposes versus stock, or even better if there was an option that retained the stock hitch.

As far as price, $1500 seems reasonable, given our limited market.

I don't know how i missed this thread.I am definitely interested in this! It would be great to get a nice functional bumper for our 4th Gens that looks great,gains clearance,doesn't weigh a ton and that doesn't cost $2-$3k. I have local guy that's working on a hybrid style bumper similar to another member on here [MENTION=32177]A10MileHusker[/MENTION] so depending on how that turns out i may just rock with that, If not the search continues...

Well, despite all the interest, it doesn't seem like something that Pelfrey is interesting in pursuing at the present time. They are going to be finishing up a few other R&D projects and then could be turning attention back to this. Sorry it won't be happening sooner

I hope Pelfry's looks nothing like the CBI Hybrid. Baffles me that they could sell that halfbaked idea to a paying customer.

I actually really like this bumper. Its very minimal and not very invasive and the fact that it weighs 90 pound is really nice. Oh and the fact that I helped design it helps. Your not going to get much lighter than that and the cross member in the rear is the limiting factor. The only way to get any better clearance is to cut that out and I know 90% of the guys on here wont do that and most of then are too scared to trim the plastic too so that limits your options for what your asking for.

I actually really like this bumper. Its very minimal and not very invasive and the fact that it weighs 90 pound is really nice. Oh and the fact that I helped design it helps. Your not going to get much lighter than that and the cross member in the rear is the limiting factor. The only way to get any better clearance is to cut that out and I know 90% of the guys on here wont do that and most of then are too scared to trim the plastic too so that limits your options for what your asking for.

It just wouldnt work for me. Very glad you like it and if it fits your usage, even better. I would happily cut out the rear crossmember and replace it with a stout bumper, I also have no problems cutting plastic or removing it.

Finally, I asked about a bumper after I saw yours and he said he'd have to start from scratch cuz yours was made to accomodate a 1" BL so he didn't jig it, interested to see what the rear looks like, haven't seen a product of his I haven't liked yet, even his hybrid front looks good!

This is basically the bumper I'm waiting for. I'm waiting on final specs before ordering my suspension, since this will be the heaviest addition to the truck outside of IF i ever decide to go hog wild and do a fridge and what not on the inside.

The front bumper in aluminum is what I'm looking hard at as well.
