Question for Colorado folks.....

Okay, saved my pennies to finally get a lift on my 2012 TE, now I am looking for a good shop to do the installation.

So, I am looking for info on a good shop, who you've had luck with and who to avoid.

I am in Colorado Springs....

I know they're out of the way for you but Slee Offroad in Golden is a highly respected shop that specializes in working on Toyota

Toytec is also over here on the front range up north a bit for you, but respected on this forum.

Edited in that I didn't realize Toytec wouldn't install the products they produce and sell... my bad.

I'm ordering the goodies from toytec but they don't do the installation.

Slee would be where I would take mine. The are a good shop and highly respected in the Land Cruiser community. Also, I think the owner used to have a Trail, so that can't hurt. However, they can be on the more expensive side of things. I'm sure there are other shops that do great works as well, I just have not heard as much about them....lol be glad you live in CO!
 
I can't recommend Bach Crawlers enough. Pete will take great care of you for a reasonable price. He is just off exit 161 in Monument, 20 mins from downtown Co Springs. Awesome business that will take the time to really make sure you are set up just the way you want. He's been in the offroad industry for decades and is very very customer service oriented, just as a small business should be!

Thanks for all the feedback, I'm guessing these places also take care of the alignment? I plan on doing the UCA's while everything is opened up.
 
If you go to slee, you can also schedule alignment at Stevenson Toyota down the road. Ask them for the slee alignment deal.

This is a good point! However, I would suggest staying away from Stevenson Lexus (also right down the road).....Almost left there today with an 08 LX570 oops!
 
There are 4 shops here in Colorado Springs that I would recommend.
Armorology installed the Toytec lift in our FJ and a spacer lift in my 2003 4Runner
Red Line Landcruisers does good work.
Predator does good work but they tend to be a Jeep shop. They do give back to the offroading community.
Aspen Auto Repair (the location on Jet Stream Drive) 2 of the techs there are avid FJ 4 wheelers and darn good Toyota mechanics.

If Armorology does your lift he will want to have the alignment done at a specific shop over in Old Colorado city. I had no issues whit this.

I did get a lifetime alignment at Firestone for both our FJ and 4Runner.

Thanks for his info, talked to him and is a super nice guy. I will be going through him!

Now I need to decide what to go with:

Toytec Ultimate with UCA's
OR
Bilstien 5100's with spacer

I don't do any "hardcore" 4wheeling but do go off road enough to upgrade suspension. (Camping & Mtn Biking)

At this point its a toss up
 
I mistakenly ordered 2x front 5100 sets and he's got my spare set there in teh shop, might make you a deal on them if you ask specifically. What I will say if that you should def go with the ToyTec springs. I reused the stock springs on the front on my 3rd gen first and they sagged within a few months. The rear OME mid rates and 5100's rode great with stock weight.
Glad you touched base with Pete. I seriously cant say enough good things about his work ethic and his commitment to making this hobby/pass-time/whatever great from not only a business point of view but also from a interpersonal point of view. I've seen him do a good once over (free of charge) on new vehicle purchases for customers vehicles several times, heard him make appts for guys to bring used trucks they might buy to the shop for a quick "second set of eyes" check, etc, etc. For a guy as busy as he is (VERY!!!), him taking time make sure his customers are happy no matter what says a lot and because of that he has earned my business for a long, long time.
 
Ive never cared for Tanner (but I wont bash them here). Predator is a great shop. They are knowledgable and friendly and do great work. The only thing about lifts is they dont do alignments, (the others probably dont either) so you have to take it somewhere yourself, but I do recommend them. No experience with the others.


edit: Predator didnt do alignments 10 years ago anyway... I dont know anymore

My wife's 4Runner has never seen any hardcore off roading and likely never will. Upgrading to the Icon suspension was one of the best decisions I've ever made! Icon provides a significant step up from the Toytec stuff IME and on road/mild trail usage the difference is noticeable/appreciated on a daily basis. I'm not saying Toytec CO's suck, I'm saying ICON is worth the up charge and then some.

If it were me and I was looking for UCA's for a mostly street driven vehicle where I didn't want to lose the reliability/quiet/low maintenance of my stock UCA's, there's only one choice - Camburg.

Camburg Upper Control Arms Set - 310040 "Ball-Joint"

Press out your factory ball joint from your factory UCA and press into the Camburg UCA. Now you can get 4+ caster on alignment even w/ 2.5"+ lift. You have the reliability/reduced maintenance/quiet (no squeaking) of a Toyota ball joint. You will have improved range of motion, though not as good as a uniball, nor the strength of a uniball if you are really bashing it hard off road.

Moog ball joints are available as a replacement or pressed in as ordered w/ the Camburg UCA's. Moog ball joints aren't as good as the Toyota ball joints, but they are good and about 1/3 of the price. On a low mileage vehicle I would use the factory ball joints and drive them for 100K+ miles until they fail, then replace w/ Moog. Camburg UCA's w/ ball joints are NOT as good for a hard core trail rig as a true uni-ball set up. For a daily driver, they give you 80% of the benefit w/ none of the maintenance/squeaking you get w/ the uniball set ups.

Light Racing offers similar ball joint UCA's for less $, but you could fill a book w/ all the the Light Racing UCA failures I've seen here/Tacoma World. They have always stepped up and taken care of their customers, warrantied their products - frankly I'm not as interested in a warranty as I am in not needing the warranty to begin with. LR UCA's are just not a product I'm interested in running on my 4wd.

I really like this idea. And now a front runner on my UCA choice.

Edit: Just read this ..."were not designed to be used in conjunction with spacer type kits."
