Gibson exhaust on 4th gen, who's got it?

Ive have one on my 05 v8 sport and it has a higher end deeper tone (Like a new mustang or camero) It sounds sweet almost stock like. If your looking for the high pitched (weeing) type you should buy something else this is a more refined highly tuned sound! I love it.

Gibson Exhaust on 03 Ltd - ROCKS

After much research (primarily from this site) - I purchased the Gibson Exhaust from Jason at Burtman Industries. It arrived a few days later and is exactly what was promised - thank you Jason for your quick turnaround and thoroughness.

Also - a quick thanks to Pronto Mufflers in Plano, TX. It took them 40 minutes and $70 to install this - way easier than borrowing my neighbor's jack stands. These guys did super!

My review:

Mileage - after 2 weeks (and a recent trip to Austin), I am happy to report a slight gain in mileage (1-2 mpg).

Power - I have not dyno'd it, but it does seem to pull harder in the lower gears...could be psychological though.

Sound - rocks! It is very low and humble and snarls nicely when stomped. Cabin noise (i.e. drone) is almost non existent - however, the pipe's sound is noticeable most at 1800-2000 rpm. I would not call it a drone, as it's not annoying...but you can hear it.

Bottom line - love the exhaust (thanks Jason) and love the quick work (thanks Pronto) and thanks to all of you on T4R for all the posts/research.

Next up....how to get a slight 1" lift...(need new shocks anyways...just can't figure out how to get that small of a lift).

Out The Back?

On Gibson's website thay say it's a "Swept Side Exhaust" and only for 2wd. Will it fit an '07 4wd ?

Yea, the systems I have will work on your 07. Be careful as others sill have older stock. All the systems I'm selling are this years versions and will fit.

It exits straight out the back like stock. You could have an exhaust shop shoot it out the side if you want, may cost ya a few bucks.

EDIT! I know have a SIDE dual system, see end of this post for pic. Burtman Industries 4th gen Exhaust Link is for the single rear exit.

I'm not 100% sure what was different on the older ones, but I know gibson said they didn't fit.

Hey Jason, sorry for the delayed response - just moved to a new house in Mckinney, TX (anyone in the area message me if you know if some good offroading/camping) and trying to get settled in. I purchased from Jason a few weeks ago and installed it. I was a bit dissappointed with the flange that meets up with the stock midpipe as it was machined a bit to small. I had spend some time widening it out as the bolt holes didn't allign properly. Other than that, I am pretty happy with it.

Didn't go with Jason, but I did just purchase a Gibson Exhaust. Pics will be up soon.

My only gripe about this exhaust would be the mid-pipe connecting bolts that were supplied with the kit. Gibson did not include any springs at all, compared to the stock connecting bolts. This seems like it would put alot of stress on the exhaust manifolds, wouldn't you think so? I mean, the springs are there to help the pipe flex when it needs flexing, such as going over unexpected pot holes.

Gibson Side-Swept

I know its been a while since anyone has posted on this topic, but I thought I would offer a bit more info.

Gibson does offer a side-swept exhaust for the 4Runner (at least some models) and if you are into 4-wheeling or towing that is a better set-up. The advantage for towing is obvious, no exhaust blowing directly at your trailer and no worry of interference with hitch or trailer tongue. The off-road advantage is ground clearance. I didn't want the exhaust tip hanging out there in the danger zone.

I've got mine on order for my 06 4x4 V8 Sport and I'll give some feedback as soon as i get it installed. Price for my 06 4x4 V8 aluminized finish (no need for Stainless Steel in California) was $260.00 with free freight.

That exhaust is going to exit straight out the back. :dammit:

Gibson calls it a swept side design, but they only make it exit via the rear on the 4th gen 4runner. It sounds like you're expecting the one you ordered to exit to the side.
