Going Bigger - 5th Gen Tire Fitment Guide

Does anybody have the offset for the stock limited 20 inchers? I cant seem to find offset and backspace for the stock rims in 20. I am going with a 275/55/20 and wanted to confirm offset/back space for new rims. Any help would be...great! Thanks :canada:

Um, you could read the first post in this thread...

Thanks for this handy table.
I took my stock 2017 Off Road to the trails around Sand Hollow Reservoir(UT) last weekend.
I was impressed with what I was able to do on stock suspension and tires.
The handful of obstacles I had to back off of have convinced me that tires will be the first upgrade.

Great Post!!! ive found that within the installs that ive done this is pretty accurate. Except for I would Note that almost anything in yellow COULD be in the red depending on the vehicle. IE: a few weeks ago i did a 3" kit and 285 70 17s on the stock sr5 wheels and they rubbed the sway bar at full lock. every vehicle is made slightly different and thus amounts of rubbing can vary.

My 4Runner did the same thing with a 3" lift.

Here's a neat little chicken scratched grid I made on some popular 275 & 285 options, I did this mainly for tire WIDTH and WEIGHT.

I have always been a bfg guy, Love my KO2's, but the weight savings on the GY Duratracs looks mighty tempting.

I started off convinced I could go ahead and get 275/60/17 bfg ko2s on my stock 2016 TE. Now my head hurts. Was hoping to buy tires a little early to run with a 2" Icon lift in a couple months. Now my brain hurts.anybody running this setup? I tried to read but saw diverging opinions.

Let's me put it in simple terms:
265/70 means no problem

275/70 means maybe no problem and easy fix.

285/70 means probably problem but can be fixed.

I can't make it any simpler than that man. All 4runners are a bit different.

If your head hurts refer to the chart above.

Also, lifting does not help except when your vehicle is sitting still...

Let me make your head spin a little more! 285/70/17 BFG AT tires, 17x8 wheels, no lift. Removed front mud flaps, very slight rubbing on the lower inner edge of the front part of the front fender liner only in reverse. Could trim it and problem solved.

I have a question for the hundreds of you guys out there who are fine with "only rubbing a little at full lock" or "only rubbing in reverse."

Question: If the 4Runner tires rubbed stock from the factory would that be acceptable? How about if it came with the fender liners or mod flap or body mount all hacked up. Still acceptable? Of course not! You guys would pitch a fit!

So how can you, with a straight face, that "only rubbing a little bit" is fine. It's not fine. It's annoying as hell and if you don't mod it right it looks like hell. It can also cut a tire in certain cases, especially when suspension flexes off road.

Tell people the truth please. Too many people are getting the wrong message.

Best advise so far. I'm comfortable with a little "persuasion" on the fender wells.

How's the paint doing without the mud flaps? Read that can be a problem .... also read that 4Runner is Latin for "opinions". :)

Nope, that's why I'm installing my lift tomorrow night. Some people are fine with a little trimming though, to each their own. My front mud flaps were coming off either way though, they're ugly as hell. Rears will be trimmed since they're ugly as hell also.

Just fine due to the massive running boards. Mud flaps are ugly as hell, they take away from the truck. They were coming off either way, rub or not. Rears will be trimmed since they can't be removed without leaving a huge hole in the fender liner. If the fender liner covered the whole wheel well, they'd be removed also. I absolutely hate mud flaps.

Back down the rabbit hole I go

I've spent 3 years researching what vehicle to buy, which culminated in the purchase of a 2017 trd off road premium. My patience for researching mods isn't quite where it would be if I hadn't spent so much time on vehicles.

The one thing I knew I wanted was GY Duratracs. I've put quite few miles on them with my dad's LR3 and been really impressed with them for looks and performance. My only tire dilemma was size, stay stock or go up to 33"

I knew I wanted it leveled, but couldn't decide how much of a lift if any I wanted on top of that. The amount of options blows my mind on these.

I have no experience working on cars, have no place to work and no proper tools to do any of this myself. After lots of sweating about what shop I'd have do which piece of my build, I decided to let the dealer's accessory shop take care of it. Not the most cost effective, but time=money and if I was really being conservative I'd be driving a camry.

So after lurking on this forum and reading through tons of build and mod guide threads, I made some decisions that I think will 1. make me happy 2. gain the approval of more experienced forum members.

After much soul searching, I decided I wanted 285's. This made the decision to lift or not a no brainer. I figured front and rear adjustable 5100's, Letting the shop figure out what makes up the rest of the kit. From what I've read, you can't go wrong with these shocks. I've always wanted a vehicle with pocket style fender flares, so those are going on too. The shop has assured me that the 285's will clear the fenders.

All the headaches I had over sizing up, lifting up, and flaring out are alleviated by the shop assuring me I'll have no rub when they are done with it.

Yeah right. Go search out Bodie the dogs thread and see what trusting a general shop to make decisions for you gets.
Either learn everything about it so you can advise the shop properly or take it to a dedicated 4WD shop with experience on Toyota's. You do realize they probably will have to cut up your truck to fit the 285s right? If I were you i would learn something first.

First time I had read that in simple terms. Wouldn't it help also at low speeds with little movement on the suspension (thinking reversing for example.)?

Totally agree with this sentiment. No rub is acceptable to me. Really trusting the dealer shop will do it "right"

I just read that thread. Sounds like he did take it to a dedicated 4x4 shop, still had problems. I'm not sure why you assumed that the shop I'm having do my work isn't experienced with Toyotas, after I stated that I just bought a Toyota and I'm taking it to the dealer's accessory shop. I do realize that some cutting may be necessary. From what I've read about running 285's with stock spacing, I hadn't come to the conclusion that them "cutting up my truck" was probable. I'll be sure to do some research on the specific components they plan on using and their method of procedure for the lift and fitment before I sign off on a work order to be sure.

Is there a 275/70/17 thread? I can't find it. Hard to believe I'm the first to think about my mod this way.

Yeah I think you're the first ever! :crutch:

Dude that size is listed on the chart on the very first page and 1engineer already commented to you about it. If you want more, I heard of this searching thing on this forum and also something called google. :typing:

Edit: Go look back at the main 5th gen section... there is the exact thread you couldn't find.
