Alright folks... quick question... I just picked this 16 4runner trail up yesterday for my wife (after some bonehead on a cell phone totaled her 15 trail).

It came with 265/70r17 toyo open country MTs... mounted on KMC XD800 Misfit wheels.... yeah, I usually think the XD wheels are retarded, but for once, I think these actually look pretty good.

Problem though... the wheels are 17"x9" with 0 offset (5" BS) according to the specs on their website. The Toyo tires have a wheel width range of 7.0"-8.5". I'm clearly over that...

I bought the car this way... is it unsafe? Should I be looking for different wheels for these tires? They rub slightly on the fender liner, but I haven't moved the liner forward yet. I want to stick with the 265/70r17s and the aggressive look, but do not want the tires sticking out of the stock fender flares tearing up my paint and throwing rocks and salt on the side of the car. What is a good wheel width/BS/offset for getting these tires flush or slightly inside the wheel well without rubbing? It has a small 1" spacer lift in front now, I plan for more lift, but won't be exceeding 2"

You could possibly have an issue if you air down to wheel but otherwise you're fine.

So how much pressure do you think it would be safe to air down to then when wheeling?

Not unsafe, and 15+ PSI will hold fine. Truck looks good too!

Honestly, biggest risk will be lack of sidewall making it really easy to scratch the wheels offroading (or even if you do something as simple as catching a curb).

I'll never understand why people put XD/Fuel wheels on a 4runner, i personally think it looks way too "Bro'd" out and gaudy. I understand you didnt put them on there, but whoever did... :yuck:

Hi all,

I have a 2016 Limited and would love to switch to 17” TRD Pro wheels. As of right now, I currently have stock suspension with Gobi stealth rack. The only concern I have is the clearance between the roof rack and the garage door. The gap is about 2.5 inches. If I swap with TRD Pro along with 275/70/17 tires, will this affect the overall height? I checked the tire size calculator and it looks like I will be fine. Can anyone confirm?

Should only add ~.4-.5" at most.

I don't disagree with you generally, but would contest that these actually look decent aside from the big XD in the center cap. These are far from "bro'd out and gaudy" IMO

I think the XD is just a sticker. Maybe remove it and replace with something you like more?

Something else to keep in mind. Those wheels don't use OEM lug nuts, they use a tuner style lug. Make sure the "key" in in the truck somewhere otherwise if you get a flat you can't remove the wheel. Also, check the spare tire. If it's a stock spare, you will need to keep 6 factory style lug nuts with you. In the event you ever get a flat, you can't use the spare tire with the tuner style lugs. You have to use OEM lugs with the spare tire. I have the same type lug nuts on my truck. I used one of the cloth bags my Crown Royal comes in to keep the 6 stock lugs in and the required tuner style lug key. Stuck it right in the 1/4 panel with the jack. The cloth bag keeps them secure and quiet in there.

I will echo 1engineer and many others. The trucks are all different, but you should be able to do 285's with minimal issue.

After major mental back and forth between 275 and 285, went with BFG LT 285/70-17 on my 2014 Trail Premium with KDSS. Tiniest rub on the passenger mud flap at full lock right turn, no other contact. Serious upgrade in stability, solid feel, no noise, no lean in the turns. Speedo vs. GPS shows about 1 mph delta, will report on MPG once I get some miles on. Does accentuate the need for some 5100/6112 boostage, going to go with 5100 all around, jacked to 2.5 F, 1.5 rear via spacers. My offroading is surf fishing and dirt roads in GW or TJ National Forest. I have some sag going on, which is infuriating, given its totally stock. 2006 V8 SE did the same thing. Looks tough as is, but needs some lift to look the way it should.

All trucks are different is right. Some have all kinds of issues, some don't. Wheels play a big part in that also. I'm at 3" running a 295 with no BMC and no rubbing yet guys with 275s seem to have rub all over the place. Really the only way to know for sure is to test fit your combo on your truck.

Forgot to mention. KO2s and stock Trail wheels, no spacers, both critical to them fitting.

Maybe I psyched the tires out, I was ready with tools and instructions to rework the fender liners and flaps in the parking lot.

I have them and i'm happy with them. Only place to buy them is direct from FN Wheels as far as I know. I'm lifted 3" front, 3" rear, 295/70/17 Ridge Grapplers, no BMC, just unbolted the lower front fender liner from the bottom side of the bumper, moved it forward, bolted it back in, and trimmed a little plastic. Back has a slight squat due to having a set of 4 285/70/17 KO2's back there and I was parked on a slight downhill.

Do you have a link to the Icon wheels? I like the FX Pro's but I don't love them. I honestly don't love any wheel that i've seen yet on a 4R so i'm always open to options.
