Goodbye retro fitted headlights

I've decided to sell or trade my retrofitted headlights and get some OEM lights.

What is wrong with them you may ask?

Well I can never get them to function properly. I believe it to be my 4runner that causes the issue because ever since I began buying Hid bulbs BEFORE the retro fit, one light would never receive the current so it would not turn on.

I had my mechanic confirm this when he used that fancy gizmo to check the currency. The retro fit worked for a while before it began experiencing the same problem and I'm done trying to make it work. So I'm gunna go back to OEM, just got to find some.

Rant done.

I doubt that stock headlamps are going to do anything for you.

If the stock wiring wasn't carrying enough current to activate the HID relay it
s also not going to carry enough to light a headlight, which pulls a lot more amperage than the relays do.

It's been running well, surprisingly most of the errors I've found were mechanic errors, I was able to fix em by popping the hood and being curious

And from what I read you started having problems when HID bulbs were installed without projectors. If that created a problem in the wiring, the problem is still there.

Not saying that's the case, but it's a definite possibility. Just because stock lights worked before you had problems doesn't mean they will work now is all I'm saying.

Before giving up on the retro,I'm going to guess you've been powering the HID ballasts with the stock headlight bulb connectors instead of a proper harness with relays powered directly to the battery. You also have DRLs right?

What brand and type were the projectors, harness and bulbs?

You should at least say that much.

Before giving up on the retro,I'm going to guess you've been powering the HID ballasts with the stock headlight bulb connectors instead of a proper harness with relays powered directly to the battery. You also have DRLs right?

Yes I used the ballast that it came with which connects to the wire where the stock headlights connected to, I have my DRLs disconnected

i had the same problem, if you look at the connector that attaches to the bulb, the contacts can be bent in slightly to give better contact.

Did you call TRS?

They are located in GA and speak fluently. Its not as if they are some cheap eBay stuff from far away lands.

Those guys are pretty helpful on the phone. I thought I had a bad harness but I had actually wired it wrong.

One thing I will say about TRS is that the wiring harnesses are poorly / barely labeled. But that can be overcome by calling them.

That's not what was asked though.

With the TRS kits the stock headlight plug only triggers the relay. You aren't powering the ballast with the stock headlight harness. The ballasts get their power from the relays that come with the kit.
