Got hit tonight

My T4R was slammed in to today by someone running a red light. I was third in line waiting for a green left turn light. Light turned green and I went through on the heels of the car in front of me. As I was making the left hand turn a car that was traveling from the other direction and heading through the lane I was turning through ran the red light and t-boned me right in to the front right tire. The wheel is bent in at the top, the bumper took some damage and there is some body damage around the front right door. Fortunately, my 2 kids, the 2 dogs and myself weren't hurt. The car that hit me had the front airbags deploy which shook up the driver and passenger of the other car pretty good.

I'm pretty sure my camburg UCA is toast but I'm not sure about the coil-over. I was too busy writing statements to really give it a good look over. Fortunately, the person who was behind me also waiting to turn provided a statement that the car ran a red light. Additionally, the driver of the car was arrested for driving on a suspended license. He had a current insurance card but the police officer said that he may not be currently insured.

The car was probably traveling about 35MPH when he hit me. Although the impact was very jarring I never felt like I was in danger even though my T4R briefly tipped up on two wheels. I was lucky he hit me where he did and that I was driving a tank of a truck. None of my airbags deployed.

None comes the fun part of dealing with the insurance and making sure everything get's repaired correctly.

But bent wheel sound like you need something sturdier, like maybe some cast TRD, then I might go roof mounted turret :gun5:

but seriously glad everyone was OK, and all insurance suck to deal with.

I hope you get things squared away with the insurance, and best of luck with the repair shop. Expect to be tried by the idiocy, stay calm, stay nice, and insist on getting what you were promised. Come vent here. It works.

Damn! Glad you and your kids are ok; that's all that counts for now. I feel your pain though. My Trail was hit in the same area, but was only cosmetic.

One thing's for sure: Toyota built one hell of a tough truck. It's been proven on more than one occasion on the forums.

Glad you and your family is alright! Machines can always be fixed or replaced. People, not so much. Most important thing is kids are ok and it wasn't your fault! Keep us posted.

Wow. What is it with people these days who think that they are going to get somewhere SO much faster by running lights? I'm glad you're family is good and that the 4runner provided the barrier to prevent these people from killing someone. I'm afraid a car, or other lighter vehicle may not have been so fortunate. Having had someone tbone me in my 3rd gen, I actually did flip over, but I walked away without a scratch. The 4runners are definitely meant to take abuse. Keep us posted on the repair process, I know it's tedious!!!

Owch, but does not look too bad compared to what the other car looks like! Glad everyone made it out ok, especially the pets as they don't tend to like the seatbelts too much and it easy for them to get tossed around.

I had a 11 week old Aussie/Blue Heeler puppy in the back seat. He got tossed pretty good but fortunately he's pretty resilient and wasn't hurt. My German Shepherd was pretty freaked out but she's fine now. Best thing is that my kids weren't injured at all. Unfortunately, my neck and head have been aching since I got hit; not very bad but just enough to be annoying.

Are your kids young enough to be in a car seat? If so, remember to get them a new seat as the old one isn't suppose to be used after a crash. The new car seats will be covered under their insurance as well.

Same thing happened to my friends car a few years ago. He just picked me up not even a 1/2 a mile down the road. Light turned, we were behind a motorcycle turning left, we went right after the bike and BAM!! My buddy couldn't see the the oncoming car cause the bike was creating a blind spot. We got rotated a good 80-90 degrees. Air bags went off and everything. Luckily everyone was OK, I had a major bruise where the seat belt was on my shoulder. I had just gotten picked up from my moms house, so I called her up and she brought my camera. Here are some pics.

Those pics are pretty brutal. I'm very glad I was in a 5k Lbs SUV instead of a car. I'm not much of a car guy anyway but after this experience I don't think I'll ever own a car again. Even as I was tipping up on 2 wheel I still felt protected in my T4R.

Yeah, I hate cars for this reason. It's hard to feel safe when you look out the window and you just see wheels and tires. Hardly enough visibility!

I hadn't seen my friend for about 5 months, he picked me up to show what all he had done to his car, the wheels, body kit, rear spoiler, etc. I wasn't even with him for 3 minutes before this happened.

As soon as we got hit I blacked out. Woke up facing 7-11 with the inside all powdered up from the airbags. My Throat was burning a little. Something I hope to never go through again! especially in a car!

Glad you're OK, that's the most important thing; however, due to the damage and location - I don't think that 4Runner will ever drive the same. The front LCA, UCA and all associated mounts/brackets took the hit.

Any shots from underneath?

Like other's have said, the safety of these cannot be matched no matter how many crumple zones + airbags they put in small cars. There is no substitute for a fully boxed ladder frame.
